Which regulations affected those components? Hard to imagine any. So I’ll stick with DEI, specifically incompetent people making the small decisions that can ruin the end product, such as which metal alloy to use...seen that first-hand.
To meet their mileage numbers, some Chevy trucks had/have a thing that they automatically go from 8 cylinders down to 4 (going downhill, etc.). Trouble is the lubrication got messes up and the engines wore out.
I bought a ten year old truck and the guy had just put in a new engine (the same 8 to 4 cyl that blew on it). He had 2,000 miles on the new engine. I sent the computer board to some guy and for $50 he changed the switches or whatever to keep it on 8 cyl the entire time.
