GM is recalling nearly 600,000 SUVs and trucks in the United States due to engine issues, it announced Tuesday.
The Detroit automaker is recalling 2021 through 2024 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles with 6.2L V8 gas engines.
It said the connecting rod and crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage or failure.
GM said it identified 12 crashes and 12 injuries in the United States that may be related to the recall issue. Dealers will inspect the engine and, if needed, repair or replace it.
Vehicles that pass inspection will be provided a higher viscosity oil, which will also require a new oil fill cap and an oil filter replacement, GM said.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in January opened an investigation into 877,710 GM vehicles over reports of engine failures involving vehicles with the V8 engine.
The company subsequently opened its investigation.
GM previously closed three prior investigations into the issue since 2022 based on the available safety field information.
It identified 28,102 field complaints or incidents in the United States potentially related to failure of the engine due to crankshaft, connecting rod, or engine bearing issues, including 14,332 involving allegations of loss of propulsion.

Only NEW car I ever had was Pontiac wagon -—PUT over 444,000 miles on it in under 20 years.

I generally only buy used cars at least ten years old,
so they have a track record.

RAM trucks had a massive crankshaft issue-—They bought crankshafts made in GERMANY.
THEY ACTUALLY BROKE...HAD TO BE BAD CASTINGS FORMULA.
They had those trucks sitting for OVER 7 months at the dealerships.
There are literally hundreds of youtube videos telling you how to deactivate that feature. My current car just barely escaped getting it as it was flex fuel compatible. The smaller displacement motor without the flex fuel feature has cylinder deactivation.

these days it is EPA regulations. Same reason everyone and their mother are tossing turbos on cars.
So you put heavier weight oil in. Wonder what the life expectancy of these bum motors are. As long as they pass warranty I guess.
As I understand it the Frontier is now a better truck than the Toyota Tacoma.

The clearances on these components are critical. I’m speaking as someone who’s built many different engines both Domestic and foreign over the decades. Clearances are something that can be modified but not abused.
Chevy used to be a engine that could be counted on as reliable.
It’s apparently not the case anymore.
I suggest that they contact the engine builders in the NHRA...
Bought a 2023 V6 Toyota Tacoma 4WD with 12,000 miles. Cost more than 2025 Tacoma 4WD with the turbo 4 cylinder. 2023 was the last year Toyota put the V6 in the Tacoma

Me too...brought a Nissan V6 new with 20 miles on the clock for the same price as a Toyota 4 cylinder turbo with 30K miles.
I read the other day GM doesn’t have enough engines for warranty work already..
Thin oil is the issue (prevention).... who knew??? Guess 0-16 weight oil can be interesting.... MMM Toyota?
A heavier weight oil is not going to fix this issue. It’s just going to quiet it down a bit once those rod journals start to wear prematurely and start making noise. If you own one of these turds, then sell it fast!
