I met an Indian man once whose family traced their conversion back to St. Thomas, and once a century, the family members at that time would make a pilgrimage to Israel.

I had an Indian colleague who was a Christian and named Thomas. The west coast of India has Christians from early medieval times. They are about evenly divided between Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglicans. The Catholics use a different rite. The Anglicans were generally already Christian and got money from the British government being Anglican, and didn’t have to change their worship much.

There are also Catholics in Goa, which was Portuguese. There are Protestants in jungle areas in the northeast, converted by missionaries during British rule.

There are more Christians than Sihks in India, but they are less than 3% of the population.

*** Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. ***

Why was Thomas called the Twin? Does anyone know?
