So where is the “Bandar Abbas area?” I don’t even know in what country or continent that is.

Bandar Abbas is the major Iranian port. actually flew in to it a couple of times to crew rest/turnaround after IO patrols in the early ‘70s. Of course the Shaw was still on the throne at the time. They wouldn’t let us off base and that didn’t disappoint us a bit.
