Yes you are so right. It did.

How I miss Carson. His shows were pure entertainment.

I haven’t watched one of these shows since.

Johnny Carson was host when the television shows and movies the guests were hawking were still the Product, in addition to the audience being the Product sold to the advertisers.

Kimmel, Fallon, Myers, Colbert, etc. are only hawking viewers as the Product to advertisers. The actors, actresses, athletes, musicians, etc. no longer need television to reach new fans.

Kimmel, Fallon, Myers, Colbert, etc. don't need to deliver anything worthwhile. In fact, it's frowned on. Don't get the riff-raff's standards up.
