President Donald Trump used his Truth Social account to berate NFL owners for not drafting Shedeur Sanders in the first round.
Sanders is a quarterback who entered the draft after playing with the University of Colorado Buffaloes, where his father Deion Sanders is the head coach.
The elder Sanders had a standout athletic career, playing football, baseball, and track at Florida State University before playing professional football and baseball, racking up championships and individual honors in both sports. Deion Sanders has won two Super Bowls and is in both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Shedeur Sanders was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and, as ESPN’s Stephen Holder put it, “a unique prospect in terms of his huge celebrity and personality, matched only by his immense confidence,” making him “among the most debated prospects entering the draft.”
Both father and son had boastfully predicted he would be snapped up in the first round of the NFL draft this year. That did not happen.
After Thursday’s picks wrapped without his name being called, Sanders was disappointed but “appeared upbeat,” ESPN reported, telling family and friends gathered where he was watching the draft in Texas that he “didn’t expect this, of course…but I feel like with God, anything’s possible — everything’s possible.”
“I don’t feel like this happened for no reason,” he added. “All this is of course fuel to the fire. Under no circumstance — we all know this shouldn’t have happened. But we understand, we’re on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow’s the day. We’re going to be happy regardless.”
Friday afternoon, Trump blasted the NFL owners who had passed on Sanders, writing:
What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be “picked” IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!
So far, neither Deion nor Shedeur Sanders has posted on social media reacting to the president’s post, although Deion Sanders has posted several tweets over the past few days in support of his son or blasting his critics.
Just look how far down the draft list you have to go to get to Cam Ward, a black QB. Getting out the list... Oh, right there, number one pick overall.
I have only followed this kid through the headlines. But just some quick research on him, his father, their public persona, image and comments - and it's obvious they would bring destructive public drama to any team stupid enough to draft him. No NFL owner, GM, or coach wants that.
Nothing more needs to be said.
Ask Carlton Fisk what he thinks of Sanders.
Just got picked by the Browns in the fifth round
Cleveland, round 5, just took Shedeur Sanders. Now we get to listen to all the bozos bemoaning that it took so long.
Uh, they’ve got two experienced QBs, and also drafted a QB earlier in the draft. But then, y’know, about 37 percent of those drafted never play for the team that drafts ‘em. Having four on the roster isn’t A) a bad idea or B) a permanent state.
And, Cleveland isn’t known for smart moves. They traded down and let the Jags draft the best player in the draft at #2. Plus they paid even more guaranteed money to get that useless wretch from Houston, which then laughed its way to the bank.
I don’t know if Shadeur Sanders can make it in Cleveland. I don’t think he can do the sexual assaults they need in a QB.
Tom Brady Draft Pick
Tom Brady was selected as the 199th pick in the 6th round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. [the seventh quarterback taken]
Despite being drafted relatively late, Brady’s career has been marked by significant success, including seven Super Bowl victories.
The Patriots’ decision to draft him was based on recognizing his intangible qualities such as mental fortitude and leadership, rather than just relying on luck.
AI-generated answer. Please verify critical facts.
[when Brady won his seventh Super Bowl, it was with his second NFL team, and as it was SB 55, he’d won more than one eighth of all the SB’s ever played to that point]
LOL!
LOL. Getting drafted by the Browns is worse than getting drafted for the Ukrainian military.
IMHO he’s a pretty good player. But he presents himself off the field like he’d be more of a liability than an asset.
But, Mediaite being who they are, they couldn’t resist the opportunity to paint the president as a non-serious buffoon who has gone off the rails over an utterly unimportant situation.
And then Sanders compounded his bad first impression for getting resentful when Daboll called him out on it.
Multiply this scene by 32 teams (or whatever number of teams took the time to meet with him before the draft), and you get a picture of what kind of an insufferable @sshole you're dealing with here.
Clowns like you don't deserve this President.
Attitude problems. Was the #1 pick black? Why, yes he was.
Frank Costanza: What the hell did you pass up Shedeur Sanders for?!? He’s got a rocket for an arm, you don’t know what the hell you’re doin’!!
Eastern Sports Propaganda Network
Trump is forgetting that the entire NFL took a knee to show their fealty to The Deep State.
