A tipsy Long Island teen went for a passed-out joyride in a Tesla — which he switched into autopilot mode on a busy Connecticut highway before going to sleep and being busted by cops, state police said.
Garden City native Guido Reinoso-Gallegos, 19, was slumped over the steering wheel as the self-driving vehicle rolled down I-91 south in Wethersfield at just 30 miles per hour with its hazard lights flashing when he was arrested around 12:30 am Friday.
Despite not having his hands on the wheel, Gallegos was charged with driving under the influence because he still needs the awareness to hit the gas or brake at any time if something were to happen, Connecticut State Police told The Stamford Advocate.
“You still need to be, basically, driving without driving, in a sense,” said Trooper Daniel Hill, who believes this to be the first arrest of its kind in the Constitution State.

Got it now. I read to the ad block and then thought the article was over. I missed the part about how it was stopped.
Key Word = Teen
“But I don’t think that works anymore on the newer models. I think they have cameras that have to see your eyes to auto drive. “
Yes the older systems could be fooled by weights or water bottles the sloshing water made the sensors think hands where gently moving the wheel. All new Tesla have multiple cameras that not only.follow the hands they also follow the eyes via IR cameras so they work at night. You have to be head up and looking forwards. That’s not to say you can’t put a HUD screen up and watch Netflix with your eyes forward the HUD screen is half reflective so you can see through it if you need too. Sunglasses defeat the eye sensors can confirm in a Model 3 and Model Y, at night any polycarbonate yellow lenses also defeat the IR cameras also can confirm.

AI uber alles! (whatever)
Every one of my lawyer friends have Model S specifically for FSD and DUI. It’s virtually impossible to get a DUI if you let the FSD do its job and can keep at least ome hand on the wheel from time to time , you defeat the eye sensors with sunglasses or tactical night lenses the polycarbonate kind are impervious to IR. It only bugs you with the wheel on exit ramps and turns it every so often on the motorway. If you are so blasted as to not be able to wiggle the wheel every 5 min or so then yeah take an uber.

Autopilot should not be allowed ever on a car or truck.
The only sensor should be one that can detect a driver falling asleep or not paying attention to the road ahead then would make noise to wake that person up.
Why would you need to defeat the eye sensors? Are your lawyer friends wanting to close their eyes while the car drives?
