“We built it, you make it.”
That’s the motto for Slate, a new American electric vehicle company, which just revealed its launch model and is backed by ex-Amazon (AMZN) executives, including, reportedly, Jeff Bezos’s family office
Slate said its EV pickup, a bare-bones truck with a footprint smaller than a Ford (F) Maverick, will cost somewhere in the mid-$20K range, and it will come in any color you want — as long as it’s slate gray, that is. The option-challenged vehicle offers a choice of two battery sizes for the rear-wheel-drive truck: a 52.7-kWh battery pack targeting 150 miles of range and an 84.3-kWh pack with 240 miles of range.

They ALMOST got it right.
Dump the EV and add a 1.6L four banger and they'd sell 5 million of them.

Thanks Mr. Bezos, but I think I’ll keep my 2000 7.3L F350DRW, and my $20k.
Maybe you can interest your spacey girlfriend and her spacey girlfriends in buying your cute li’l truck.

It’s about time someone did something like this. Whether electric or gas, a modular and modern version of “the people’s car” is a good idea. Make America Affordable Again.

This might be a practical use case for the people who would buy a small pickup, like I had for years with a 4-cyl stick-shift Ranger. In those years I drove tons of miles (gas savings was important), but rarely carried large cargo a long way (i.e. an EV truck loses lots of range carrying a lot of weight). Usually, my "cargo" was just lightweight dirty items like a weed trimmer and push mower -- the kind it'd be not worth getting a large truck and having bad gas mileage with.
But still don't get it as an only vehicle.

Is it named the VOLKS-EV???
To: Nervous Tick
Yeah, that’s a ‘pickup’ like ‘Bozos’ space capsule was a ‘space adventure’.

For many years I drove a Chevy Luv (Izusu) with a 1.8L and 4 speed. It was slow and only carried about 400lbs well. I put 10s of thousands of miles on it without a single problem.
Radio and heater was all it had.
Loved that truck.

I'd consider it if he has the randomly bursting into flames thing whipped.
But he didn't mention it, so I'm guessing not.

What I liked about my cheap 4-cyl Ranger is it was cheap enough for me to practically abuse without worrying about scratching it up. Mine too was bare-bones.
But I did install an aftermarket CD player and speakers to jam to miles and miles of Christian rock like Petra and Mylon and such. LOL
