I think a lot of this war against plastic bags and sackers are people who don’t fill up the cart (s) to overflowing and who don’t often require two carts to get it all to the car, like families and people who go to the store once or twice a month.
Self service gas, bring your own bags and sack your groceries yourself, and add grocery bags to your weekly clothes washing. I wonder if restaurants have started suggesting that you bus your own table and set the dishes by the kitchen door before you walk out.

That came with the invention of fast food joints... But in turn it is not customary to leave a tip either. Now that is a fair trade off for our personal labor.
I can remember when I was younger we still had full service gas stations. They pumped the gas for you,, cleaned your windows and checked the dip stick for oil levels if you asked. Feels like a very long time ago now. You paid a premium but I think it was a good business model because you formed a relationship with the station and the people working there. Good old days now.:)
