Let’s (Not) Celebrate Psychology Week

According to the American Psychological Association’s (APA’s) website, psychologists will be celebrating something called “Psychology Week” from April 20–26, during which so-called mental health professionals will “honor the ways psychologists create meaningful change among individuals, communities, and society.”

Self-congratulatory and evidence-free psychobabble aside, how have psychologists created “meaningful change” (positive or negative) in society?

Woke institutional capture has not spared the profession of psychiatry. While real doctors (surgeons, oncologists) tend to be conservative, fake doctors with paper PhDs who memorized the pseudo-science contained in the engorged Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR) tend to skew hard left in their sociopolitical beliefs.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar — if it’s being smoked by a leftist icon like Fidel Castro. But if a conservative like the late Rush Limbaugh enjoys a cigar, ah, then it represents something dark and sinister — maybe a repressed oral fixation, an Oedipal complex, or white supremacy coupled with heteronormative patriarchal violence. Or whatever the cringingly woke psychiatrist or social worker proclaims.

Echoing Friedrich Nietzsche (“God is dead”), Sigmund Freud is said to be the father of modern psychoanalysis. It is apropos that Freud came from the same country (Austria) as Adolf Hitler, the progressive socialist/megalomaniac and mass murderer. Freud died in September 1939, the same month Hitler’s Germany invaded Poland, launching World War II.

Since Freud’s time, psychiatrists and social workers have largely replaced pastors and priests taking confession from troubled souls. Moreover, these anointed “experts” are enlightened not by religion (which they view as dangerous superstition, unless the religion is Islam) but by science — just look at the size of the DSM-5, it’s far thicker than the New Testament.

Without ever examining Donald Trump, tens of thousands of mental health practitioners publicly diagnosed Trump as suffering from, among other things:

If they are leftists then they have mental disorders. The blind leading the blind.

From the article: ...how have psychologists created “meaningful change” (positive or negative) in society?

By helping individual members of society deal with issues, often debilitating, that prevent them from making meaningful changes both personally and amongst others.

My marriage is psychological.

She is psycho and I am logical!

****************************************************

Did you know that 72% of all women are on antipsychotic meds?

That means that 28% are walking around untreated.

****************************************************

My wife is a psychiatrist. (True)... I joke that she never has to divorce me. She can just have me committed!

We did a relationship and marriage workshop together. I used a Power Point, she didn’t. So I projected Lockhorne cartoons on the screen.

This brings to mind some thoughts attributed to Richard Feynman:

Richard Feynman had a hierarchy of the sciences:
Physics is applied mathematics. Chemistry is applied physics. Biology is applied chemistry. Psychology is a bunch of witch doctors

I know a few people that would be dead without good shrinks. Not everybody is as comfortable in their instability as this author, some people need help. And psychology has actually given us a lot, like the ability to understand this author is a toxic person. But also the ability to help them, if they chose such.

My dad was a PHD psychologist. He convinced me not to follow in his footsteps.

One of the things I clearly remember him telling me is how gay became normal. It became normalized because the gay lobby would harangue and harass presentations they didn't like at the psychology meetings.

Now, I am all for folks being left alone, but this is why it was normalized.

If psychologists (and psychiatrists) really did their job, we wouldn’t have such messed up people walking the streets (and schools).

“Now, I am all for folks being left alone, but this is why it was normalized.”

Insanity has come to signify a psychological concept that is defined by social acceptance. Forget about the nature of reality.

If ultimate reality equates to an individual’s perceptual experience, then the only way to prove an ultimate reality (on any socially acceptable level) is through corroboration by others validating our abnormal behavior as normal.

If I can convince others that my behavior is normal, then I can believe it myself. I found this to be true when working with Lesbian Activists.

Actually, here’s the first sentence of law.com’s lengthy definition of insanity:

“Insanity. n. mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot conduct her/his affairs due to psychosis or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior.”

That sure fits many of the crazy cat lady liberal Democrats, i.e. “cannot distinguish fantasy from reality.”

I find this topic rather humorous as many here on Free Republic and in the medical profession, consider my perception of reality as delusional. I’ve demonstrated that my perception of reality is scientific and verifiable, even though it goes far beyond what is accepted by science.

When I demonstrate it, they freak out as though they saw a ghost or UFO as they cannot believe what they see with their eyes and experience as it invalidates the parameters of their perception of reality. It pops their ego bubble.

I’m comfortable with my perception of reality and don’t need anyone’s validation to accept it as legitimate. I know I am crazy! LOL

I have a sister-in-law who is a psychologist AND a conservative which I understand is quite rare. She has many patients with severe issues brought on by childhood abuse. That would be very difficult for me.

My impression of psychology comes from my time in college at the University of Florida. The College of Psychology was right next to the College of Electrical Engineering where I had classes and also worked in a research lab. There were so many really weird gay men majoring in psychology and many tended to hang out in the bathrooms in the Electrical Engineering buildings, especially on the side of the EE buildings closest to the Psychology building. If you wanted to avoid the gays you had to go to a bathroom on the opposite side of the EE buildings. It was really annoying and made a lasting impression on me.

A person cannot be healed of mental illness without following the moral guidelines of religion. Sin actually does create a lot of mental illness, no matter a person’s outward beliefs.

Changing the definition of sin does not make it acceptable to the soul or the unconscious mind.

I was just not ready for college. I didn’t realize that the successful engineering students studied all the time. Also, I learned I had ADHD and could not study until I learned aerobic excercise helped it tremendously.

I finished in physics and electrical engineering, although it took a couple of extra years, and thanks to my dad, avoided a bad major.

I can remember the bathroom the gay guys hung out in at my college. Not good.
