The "Super Schunkler" is a type of amusement park ride, featuring suspended carriages that spin in two separate directions, creating a combination of centrifugal force and swaying motion. The ride's name "Schunkler" translates to "swayer" or "shaker" in English, which accurately reflects the ride's movement.

(The real action begins near the one-minute mark.)

Went to an Octoberfest way back in the 90s; they had all kinds of dangerous looking rides with everybody drunk. The highlight was gas-powered bumper cars on a track and there were guys going the opposite direction.

I don’t think they understand the concept of liability in Germany.

Participate at your own risk.

A friend who attended Octoberfest said there must be no liability requirement in Germany after she and her 13 year old daughter waded, and sometimes slid, through streets covered in layers of broken glass.

That looks like fun. I was waiting for one of those kids to back handspring himself right off the ride, lol.

I got dizzy just watching it. About the only ride I could ever handle was the Merry-Go-Round. Even the Tilt-a-Whirl was a bit much for me. I was never into the thrill rides, but my two sons were.

I don’t think I need to know that bad.

Back in the mid ‘80, I was in the USAF stationed at RAF Bentwaters, England. We made several TDY’s (Temporary Duty) to Germany each year.

On one such trip, we went to a random Octoberfest, and they had one just like this but with a ring of cushion/chair thing in the middle.

The challenge was that someone in our group would yell “middle” and we’d all try to get to the circle in the middle. Then “outside” when we managed to get some of us there.

And the operator did his best to prevent us from making these moves. He was pretty brutal about it. That video was WAY milder that what we got. And the dude let us stay on for a LONG time.

Most of us were bleeding by the time it was done.

BEST. RIDE. EVER.

The only amusement park “ride” which ever left me queasy with motion sickness was called “The Rotor”. It was an enclosed cylinder which spun, pinning you against the wall as the floor dropped from your feet. After about 30 seconds the floor came back up and the spin gradually ended. For many riders the floor wasn’t the only thing that came back up.

The “Super Schunkler” — she was everybody’s friend in college, as I recall.

When I lived in Berlin there was a carnival run by gypsies.... there were a few rides I wanted to go on. One was some king of slingshot ping pong ball that shop, you way up. I saw the drunken gypsy and said, “nah.” Within a few more launches one of the bungee cords snapped sending the “customers” slamming in to the poles. No thanks. I said to my Polish girlfriend, “if you can’t trust drunken unknown gypsies at a carnival who,can you trust?” She just laughed

I don’t think they understand the concept of liability in Germany.

Comments at the video say that German liability law says the carnival is not liable if someone is hurt through their own actions. I'd say they understand liability very well. Play stupid games....

That’s dangerous in our Litigation States of America but nothing to whoop about. I was on a similar ride called the Cyclone at Tennessee’s State Fair (1978ish) but it had individual seats with a loose bar for safety. It got up to twice as fast and a full 45 degree tilt 30 feet over the ground for eight minutes.

Me and a friend thought wriggling under the safety gizmo and holding onto the topmost rail above us was a fine idea...to the horror of everyone else and the ride operator.

Banned from the fair for life. Went back the next year.

This was a PSA saying Drugs Are Bad.

Thank you. I spent a few summers with my parents when they worked for carnivals (dad was a professional magician who wasn't above doing side shows), so got to ride everything for free when I wasn't a miniature clown passing out half-price coupons. A teacher sent me to the principal's office for "lying" on my Summer Activity report. She learned something.

Anyway, the greatest ride was "The Bullet" which was so brutal the operator kept a hose handy for spraying out the barf. Here's a video of one running at half his speed:

The "Vomit Comet"
