This would be a one-in-a-trillion event...

____

Nope, I listened to the news clip & the guys said there were 20,000 animal ‘strikes’ last year, but actually 4 of those involved rabbits.

Guess they need to do a better job of clearing the runways.

From the article: There's been no word on how any of this was physically possible.

We have to do that when flying to Pacific City Oregon or Roche Harbor Washington to look for feral rabbits.

I guess the suction on the engines at full power during takeoff can take in anything not nailed down along the runway. I knew they were overwhelming at short range, but didn’t realize this could happen.

Many years ago I worked in Boeing experimental flight test where we certified new aircraft designs. I worked 757, 767 747, 737 and a variety of military flight test programs.
Boeing went cheap on this latest engine upgrade for the 737
and rather than design a new aircraft, installed these bigger engines on an existing airframe.
This new configuration is much more susceptible to Foreign Object Damage.
Live things like birds or rabbits will most likely
destroy that engine eventually, for sure the engine stalls,
they cause will. Flames going out the front and rear,
If you ever been in a jet experiencing engine stall, that big boom scares the heck out of you! Those are explosions.
I try not to fly on the latest 737 generation of jets.
