At 6-foot-6 and 464 pounds, there’s only one thing standing in the way of Desmond Watson’s NFL dreams.
His weight.
The Florida defensive tackle might become the heaviest player ever selected in next week’s draft, but he’s doing everything in his power to make sure that’s not the case.
“Stopping while driving,” Watson said when asked by Fox Sports about what he’s doing to lose weight. “My biggest thing is keep going, get to where I need to get. There are stores and a lot of temptations. That’s helped me immensely: Don’t go inside the gas station. Pay at the pump. Because inside, it’s snacks and all types of things like that. Don’t pull over. If you’re on the highway, stay on the highway until you get where you’ve got to go.” …

But can he MOVE all that bulk against those quick 330-pound offensive linemen? If he can knock himself down to a svelte 395 or so he might catch him a quarterback or two!
I recall that someone commented on Sonny's ample belly, and he replied that he didn't throw the ball with his stomach.
In the 2024 NFL season, players on the practice squad who have accrued two or fewer seasons of NFL play will receive a minimum salary of $12,500 per week. The salary range for practice squad players in 2024 is between $16,800 and $21,300 per week.
Let's see: $12,500 a week, figure 20 weeks work a season- more if your team goes to the playoffs. That's $250,000 minimum. That's an edge I could live on, nicely!
I was assuming that they have practice squad players in the pre=season, but i don’t know it to be a fact.
A number of years ago, they had an article about them. Some of these players may be cut one week, and back a week later, or they may move cities multiple times. Since they don’t know where they will be, they usually can’t rent. They live in hotels, and some ended up staying in their cars. I’m sure the money has gone up, but there are a lot of expenses they have the average person doesn’t.

He will have weight trainers and nutritionists on his ass every day until the start of next season. He won’t have any choice in this if he wants to make the team.
He’s the 21st century of Robert Perry, “the Fridge,” only bigger. I hope he can control his weight, for his health’s sake as well as his possible football career.
**The Refrigerator. Died at age 47.**
He’s alive but not so well. My bad.
Did you see him play running back in his final college game? Did well as I recall.
Just wish he was as serious about his weight in college. Massive individual.
Loved da Meat Hill’s game and attitude.
Big Dez needs council by the great Udonis Haslem. He is still in great shape to this day.
Sonny and Billy Kilmer, still with us.
The 94 team is still my favorite Florida basketball team, back then, I could only dream that I would ever see Florida make the Final Four, much less win a Natty.
Kilmer was the last of the college single wing tailbacks, wasn’t he?
I can’t remember that far back. Doh!
He went as an UDFA to the Bucs.
