WASHINGTON—Just days after Kristi Noem took office as President Trump’s head of Homeland Security, she accompanied U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on a predawn raid of several neighborhoods in New York City.
“Live this AM from NYC. I’m on it,” she posted on Jan. 28 at 4:43 a.m. on X, with a photo of herself sporting an ICE baseball cap and getting into a car.
The problem: The raid was still ongoing when Noem posted about it, undercutting the element of surprise, according to people familiar with the operation.
Noem’s handling of that early raid was emblematic of the made-for-TV style she has brought to Homeland Security, an approach that often places her at center stage as the face of the president’s push to get tough on illegal border crossers, deport millions and scare more migrants from coming to America.

She looks ridiculous.
I disagree. She was a good governor for her state and while not a perfect conservative she is right of center. I don’t care what she looks like on a raid, at least she is out of the office and earning her money.
Leave her alone. It is sexist to go after women for their sense of style. There are a lot of women her age who dress far worse...
I think she’s HOT! That’s all that matters.
(I think she’s HOT! That’s all that matters.)
Same here! Besides looking hot she’s doing a phenomenal job out in the field. She’s definitely a multitasker.
I like seeing her dressed for field work
This is a stupid complaint. They did not say where they were going. New York City is huge, over 300 square miles of land area.
It’s only been a few months and I’m already sick of watching women turn government appointments into a government-class version of OnlyFans.
Noem is a hands on leader, but maybe she needs to cut back on what could be seen as grandstanding. However, Noem is South Dakota tough and could probably out shoot half those ICE agents.
Open borders WSJ lecturing Noem about how to do mass deportations.
It's the WSJ that looks so ridiculus, as does your post.
She is a political appointee doing political stuff.
So what new.
So you post a hit piece from a leftist rag to back up your personal grievances with her?
Based on your use of “come-uppance” just what sort of of a punishment or fate does she deserve? What did she do to deserve it?
Are you suggesting Mayorkas was better suited for the job?
So far we’ve got maximum hard-butt visuals and minimal deportations, with the total focus on hardcore criminals.
My preference is for the opposite: Gently getting millions out of here, with the hardcore criminals not otherwise detained by local law enforcement swept out with the tide.
Now we have an Anti-Mayorkas and they ridicule her and want her out.
This is why we can't have nice things....
Pictures like this send a message. The message is apparently over your head. As is the danger Noem puts herself in when a picture like this dangerously makes her a target #1 of all the gang bangers.
I agree with your preference.
And the Noem visuals show accurately that all we are going after right now are the really "bad dudes".
She’s an executive who needs to be doing executive duties. She needs to back off and return the credit to the people who work at the pointed end of the stick day in and day out. Maybe it’s not over my head so much as it is yours.

Leadership includes going out in the field instead of sitting behind a desk on ones fat ass.
And my point above about the picture that I posted, still seems to be going over your head.
Get real - it’s the social media extravaganza that exists in our culture today.
This is a ridiculous complaint - as if she would be there kicking doors. I have no complaints and no issues with how she is handling things.
Let’s see how it goes through the year - as long as a reduction of 90%+ of border crossings - makes it less difficult to get rid of the existing criminal element. Maintaining the pressure through the year (and increasing it) is enough evidence for me. There will be plenty of legal fights to impede any efforts to eliminate the terrorists.
Preach it brother!
