We don’t need idols. We need humility. That may not sell, but it is true.

My wife watches all kinds of singing shows. I can’t stand any of them. Fortunately we have a set of headphones so she can listen to those shows while the TV set is muted.

The judges are sickeningly sappy and cringe worthy nowdays. The show’s been unwatchable since they started being extremely woke, and that started right after Simon left. Maybe it started a little before and may be the reason why Simon left the show.

Silent_jonny had a thread for years but the show got so bad it fizzled out. I am going to watch next Sunday because it will be a 3 hour faith show with tons of Christian performers.

If you like farm shows, These are good.

If available on youtube (these are on prime):

Clarkson’s Farm - Funny stuff. Modern farming in England

Victorian Farm - Ruth Goodman, historian, and two archeologists live and work on an 1890 farm for a year as the they would have back then.

Edwardian Farm - Same three living for a year in that era as steam power was just starting to come in.

I don’t think it’s gotten bad. Just played out.

The “singers” only know how to shout a song, not sing. Does louder mean better? The way the hosts look at each other in approval, seems so.

As I write this I’m watching the Austin City Limits 50th anniversary concert. People are singing, not shouting. Quite a contrast.

I was an enthusiastic poster and follower of the show, but quit watching after Season 11 ( when the winner was Philip Philips ). The first five seasons were the best for me personally.

The format became uninteresting when they did away with the funny and hilarious out of tune and awkward singers like William Hung ( who was so bad, he’s good ). That, and the comments made by judges like Simon Cowell was what made the show interesting for me.

Sometimes, too much of a good thing becomes bad…

How bad it’s gotten? That suggests that it was good at one point.

It just wasn’t the same after Simon left.

The judges all tell all the contestants the same thing - you're wonderful, the best, you can win.

In the 1950s there was s how on daytime TV called "Queen For A Day". It featured several female contestants telling horrific stories of loss and sadness.

The winner was declared "Queen For A Day" and would win a washing machine or some other similar household item. It was hilarious!

The contestant with the BIGGEST SOB STORY wins. Haven’t watched that show since forever.

It sems like they all come from troubled pasts and very poor families that need their success to save them from certain calamity.
