Who in the hell takes 25 kids with special needs hiking in ARIZONA in these temperatures???? OMG there is stupid and then there is a whole other realm of STUPID!!!
City folk with little or no experience in the outback!
Sounds like poor planning by tenderfoot hikers.
When in Rome do as the Romans do. If there aren’t any locals marching through the Arizona desert, it’s due to common sense.
Know the area well, pretty much right down the street. It is not far from Hoover Dam, so folks going to see Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon West also take the little side trip down to the Hot Springs. Europeans and city folks who fly into Vegas mostly. It is a downhill hike to the Springs and the up hill hike back out kills them. The Europeans get hit the hardest by the heat.
Indeed.
Buzzards gotta eat, too, you know.
Don’t forget to wear a parka and gloves in case of snow!
Sounds like some of the chaperones may be “special needs” as well
Who hikes in 95%?
It is a bummer for locals when they close it like this. It is a pretty good fishing spot and popular for the locals who ARE used to the heat.
“Who hikes in 95”
That is a nice “cool” summer day for us locals there. It gets 125+ in that area. We live in it, work in it, hike in it as normal.
Sorry, but the 3 “adults” who would take 25 special needs children into a desert at 100 degrees should be arrested for reckless endangerment.
Pronto.
I almost bet, that the dead hiker was a German tourist.
AZ deserts are like dead traps for them.
Leave them open...cull the herd.
Obviously.
I would check his desk for insurance policies.
And the government “solution,” of course, is to shut the trails to everybody.
The best hiking I ever had here on the San Francisco Peninsula was during COVID when the government shut down all the parks and trails. I had all the enormous parks all to my lonesome!
