Caitlin Clark has maintained that she benefits from 'white privilege' amid her WNBA success, despite previously suffering severe backlash to her previous comments on the issue.
The Indiana Fever star first addressed the topic of race in the WNBA in December when she was named TIME Magazine's Athlete of the Year, acknowledging the 'white privilege' that fell her way as she entered the league and drove up the interest levels.
The 23-year-old faced criticism over her comments at the time but that hasn't deterred her as she doubled down on the stance in her episode on David Letterman's Netflix show, 'My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.'
'I definitely have privilege,' she said, via Fox News. 'I'm obviously White but I think⦠I'm somebody that grew up a huge fan of this league. I grew up watching this league, going to games, supporting this league. So, I know where this league comes from.
'A lot of Black women that grew up making this league what it is. That's kind of the shoulders that we stand on. So, I think that was something I'm very aware of and something I'm very thankful for. And they definitely deserve all the credit and the more we can give credit to them, the better. I'm very aware of that and I know that and I think there is responsibility in acknowledging that.'
Letterman questioned whether Clark believed, as many do on social media, that she is being targeted because of her race.
'I don't think I was being targeted,' Clark said.
Last year, as part of winning TIME Magazine's Athlete of the Year, Clark gave a wide-ranging interview discussing many parts of her rise to fame, including how race has played a role in her status.

Thank you for your brainwashed contribution to racial divisiveness, Caitlin.
what an idiot she is. Maybe she’s just trying not to get shanked on the court
She’s been indoctrinated to DEI and CRT (critical race theory) rules like most Americans her age, ever since kindergarten. Some of the young drink more of the Koolaid than others.
Sheβs a tool.
Is Caitlin Clark a dude?
LOTTA pictures looks like a dude
I guess probably not but still.....
Ugh she was all in for Harris too.
I predict that the Caitlin Clark effect has already fizzled out. Her fans will simply lose interest. I think it's already happening now.
In the NBA and WNBA it’s black privilege that prevails. They are simply overall more athletic for the sport.
She is turning into the basketball version of Megan Rapinoe.
Stockholm syndrome
She’s been literally bludgeoned into being a sub for all the African doms
Just another brain washed white college girl. Since she went to Iowa to play basketball I assume she basically took basketweaving classes instead of STEM. But I could be wrong.
It probably will fizzle somewhat. For one thing, her scoring skill is no longer such a stunning rarity. Another thing is, to be blunt, she’s not much of a looker. That should not matter, but if does, when you’re frequently being seen on TV. I’m hoping she has been getting advice on saving her money and seeking long term endorsements.
I think Caitlin repeatedly makes a point of sounding humble and giving homage to black women of the past, because she thinks the jealous black girl players won’t mistreat her (so much) if she reminds them of her ‘gratitude’. She is wrong.
best to develop lucrative skills and contacts totally outside of basketball. The media let these teams get away with poor treatment of a white player. That’s not changing anytime soon.
I keep losing track. Is Caitlin the one that used to be called Bruce?
Once you panderβ¦
A part of her appeal was that she appears to be an ordinary citizen playing ball. Her name might as well as be "Jane Doe".
She was marketable due to her relatability.
LeBron James does not have that. Even though he's a star, obviously.
Anyway, Caitlin Clark lost all of that by bending the knee. From her point of view, perhaps she felt that she had no choice. She was getting beaten up by other players in the league.
She thinks saying the things the lunatic left wants to hear will make them like her. What a fool she is.
This is what college does to a brain.
I don’t follow sports very much, but what I did see of Caitlin last year, left me feeling sorry for her.
She’s trying to survive in an uncomfortable working environment. The Coaches are not necessarily helping. She just wishes to play and play well, but she has discovered herself entangled in a lot of petty feuds and turf wars, not things she grew up having to deal with, certainly not game after game.
