Trump announces 90-day tariff pause for at least some countries
CNBC ^ | 4/9/2025 | Dan Mangan

President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a 90-day pause on the full effect of his new tariffs for at least some countries.

Trump also said in a social media post that he was raising the tariffs imposed on imports from China to 125% “effective immediately” due to the “lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets.”

Trump credited his decision to pause the full effect of tariffs on the fact that “more than 75 Countries” have contacted U.S. officials “to negotiate a solution” to trade concerns that he raised in imposing the new duties.

I was against them 30 years ago, I'm still against them now.

I guess your consistent treasonous behavior is in some perverted way commendable.

I honestly dont know what to make of this

It's about China. It was always about China (and would not want to be in Iran either).

Letting Norfolk Island off the tariff hook, temporarily at least, was certainly a master stroke by POTUS.

Wow. You really got Trump. Master stroke.

How about just make them believe you’re willing to?

Exactly. This only worked because the rest of the world thought Trump was actually crazy enough to plunge the entire world into a longterm depression. And that's what I love about Trump: the rest of the world thinks he's crazy. He's not. But I like them thinking he is. I wouldn't be surprised if Elon acting freaked out was all part of the plan.

They've already started negotiating.

Time will tell. Guess we'll just have to wait and see if you are this much smarter than Donald Trump.

Now the 125 tariff on China, is that on top of the 104 tariff imposed last night or is it 125 total?

Everyone knows the best way to negotiate a contract is to blow up the building where the negotiations are being held first.

KNOCK IT OFF!

The petrels on Heard Island including Southern Giant Petrels, Cape Petrels and , Wilson's Storm Petrels are now breathing a sigh of relief for the pause.

If the day ever comes when it does actually become “treasonous” to believe in free markets, capitalism, and the right of an individual to make his own decision about what to do with his own money that he has earned?

I guess I will have a problem.

World history tells us some nations *have* tried this - the USSR, China, the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot, the various Soviet bloc nations, the national socialist nazis, etc... I’d have most certainly have found myself in a gulag or a ‘reeducation camp’ (or a worse camp) for expressing what I expressed in the first two sentences of this post.

I always if that awful day ever came to America? It would be the Dims naming me traitor.

You have what I call the Free Traitor™ mental defect. You cannot discern any difference from the markets inside the USA, call them domestic markets, and commerce between other countries. For some strange reason you see all of that as the same thing. What is even more perplexing is when our trading partners, a cute term that makes what are out and out cut throats sound so nice, practice unfair trading practices with the USA you still cannot discern any diiference between domestic and country to country. It is amazing. I call it the traitor gene. You have it. It can be deadly and cause severe neck injuries in wartime.

Ha!

That’s perfect.

The Soviets also would have sent someone like to a gulag under the idea that I had a “mental defect”!

Ok so this part of my post you don't want to talk about? Hmm, care for a second try?

"You cannot discern any difference from the markets inside the USA, call them domestic markets, and commerce between other countries. For some strange reason you see all of that as the same thing. This is what happened to Tory loyalists in the Revolutionary war.

I hope this never happens to out beloved Free Traitors™

One would think you war whores would be cheering this.

China is funding Russia’s conflict with ZooCryane and is fag run government.

So...dig at China and they wont be able to continue on like they have.
Wont have to sanction Russia and Russia will look to deal with outside trade with us after the conflict is settled.
It leaves the little fag in Zoocryane on the outside looking in.

Yes, because you see?

My patriotism and love of country is predicated on what I believe are God-given rights of liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and all the things those very wise men wrote in the Declaration of Independence, in the Federalist Papers, in the Constitution. Re-read those things - re-read the writings of Hamilton, Adams, Jefferson, and the foundational principles of the nation they built for us.

It was not about magic dirt, magic lines on a map, or some hazy idea of the “volk” as someone like Hitler would write 150 years later.

There was a higher principle and idea bound in the idea of a new nation founded on idea unlike any other at the time: That a nation can and should exist to guard the liberty and freedom of the individual. Being as wise as they were, they knew a nation was *necessary* - a collective defense, a common good, yes. I am no more an anarchist than they were. They were practical. There are times when the citizenry of this Grand Experiment must band together - but to protect this basic idea of individual freedom and liberty, *not* to service the motherland or the “volk”.

You talk about unfair - but the reality is simply not that case. These other countries “ripping us off”? Have you visited them? They are only ripping off their own citizens. That’s too bad for them, but it is also not my problem.

The standard of living, the opportunity, the growth? The average - or median - if you prefer American enjoys a FAR better life and opportunity than citizens of these other nations who are supposedly “ripping us off”. Two car households? They don’t exist for the most part - not even in Europe. Air Conditioning? A luxury for the rich. Eating out? And on and on it goes.

I am sorry - truly, I really am - that *everybody* has not enjoyed the completely equal measure of prosperity. But - that was never the promise our founding principles; the promise was the *opportunity* to pursue them.

Other nations - other republics/democracies, even those supposed quasi-free markets have chosen to go the other direction. They have decided to create vast government programs. They have decided to, well... frankly? Make DEI writ large - everybody entitled to a nominally equal outcome. Everybody gets included.

I am sorry -really, I am - I’m not trying to pick a fight you do not agree.

But what you want? I do not.
