Florida beat Houston to claim third NCAA men's basketball title

April 7 (Reuters) - Florida overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to beat Houston 65-63 in a nail-biting thriller, claiming their third national championship in NCAA men's basketball on Monday. Senior Will Richard led the scoring for the Gators with 18 points in Florida's first trip to the title game since they last won in 2007.
Houston appeared well on their way to their first-ever title as they held Florida sharpshooter Walter Clayton Jr. scoreless through the first half in a stunning defensive performance but could not hang on against an energized Gators offense.

Unlike Duke, Florida was able to get a final-minute inbound pass that led to game winning points.

I thought the refs were going to call a foul, I couldn’t believe my eyes as the clock got to 0:00, I thought for sure they would review something. I didn’t even celebrate for another minute, until I was absolutely sure it really was over.
As an aside, that was really classy seeing Clayton Jr. console the Houston player after the game.

I thought so, too. We were so shocked, I don’t think we breathed for a bit there. Then it was really time to celebrate! Had to text my brother right away. I’m sure we will talk on the phone tomorrow.

Unless you'd rather be a track and field school (NCAA 2024 champions) or Lady Gators softball school (2014-2015), then the last Men's team titles were 2008-2009 football and 2006-2007 basketball.
I guess we're a basketball school now!
