Millions drawing for $2.
Friday, April 4, is the final Mega drawing before the lottery rolls out a new version and prize structure in its next drawing on Tuesday, April 8.
Going forward, tickets will cost $5 instead of $2, but the lottery says players will have improved odds to win, along with larger starting and faster-growing jackpots. The average jackpot is expected to top $800 million, up from around $450 million. Every ticket has a random multiplier, and there's one less gold Mega ball.

Effing tariffs are doing this!
Ditto. I only used to buy them once in a while when the winning amount was very large. At 5 bucks. That ain’t happening anymore.
Yep. Two dollars a few times a year was OK for the fun of imagining what I’d do if I won a huge jackpot. Five dollars is too much. No more Mega Millions for me, even if the jackpot gets into the tens of billions.
LOL! No doubt they'll blame this on "Trumpflation."
exactly. I thought 2bucks was a little high. But I’m Scottish. $5 is heresy.
I buy either a Powerball or MegaMillions ticket every week. Occasionally win a few bucks. Friend won $3500 a few weeks ago. It’s sort of fun, cuz who knows?
Five bucks? NEVER.
Lotteries like this are a tax on the stupid.
We'll buy quick picks every now and again when the jackpots get huge. My wife fantasizing about winning this much money. Ever the optimist, I think about the stress in my life it would bring.
Basically, all of your financial worries would be over but now you'd have a whole bunch of new problems that you never had to face, mostly with managing this vast windfall --avoiding scammers, greedy friends and relatives, dishonest financial managers, and cartels wishing to kidnap your children.
they always say you have a better chance of getting hit by lightning 20 times in a row. That, I could “win.”
Woody Allen, comedian/pervert said— “ I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor, and being rich beats the hell out of being poor. “
Two bucks is OK to throw away just for the minute possibility of winning. Five bucks is more than I’m willing to throw away for what amounts to nothing. I’ll probably still buy a Powerball ticket from time to time, until they raise their price.
I managed to live much of my life without playing any state lotteries.
I’m ok with this, as long as they cut the taxes on cigarettes and beer.
In Japan they sell ramen bowls for under 1000 yen. It’s called the “1000 yen barrier. “ any shop that went over would be committing suicide. I am saying that the $5 price tag is also a huge psychological barrier that they have crossed. I can’t tell you why it rubs my fur the wrong way but it’s not something I’m going to entertain any more.
And people thought the numbers racket was bad under the mob?
at least the mob lets you win every now and again
The odds will still be astronomical. $2 was okay once in a while for a little escapism, but $5 is not worth it to me.
Yup. And that is how they sucked you into the “juice” racket.
Now, it is the grabbermint and c cards.
I rarely buy any of that stuff. I think in the past 10 years I paid $3-5 dollars for tickets on lotteries, when they hit $1,000,000,000.
