In 1970, Santa Cruz serial killer walked into the confessional in the Catholic church in a nearby town and killed the priest there. He was not Catholic, nor had he met the priest. But he was having hallucinations that told him what to so.

If he hadn't died, should he be given some kind of medal?

Murder is a sin. And a crime against society. If someone tries to murder you, you can not decline to prosecute. It is out of your hands. It is no longer against you; it is against the state.

Murder is not justifiable. If it were justifiable, then it isn't murder. I don't see any
circumstances where murdering the priest was justifiable. None.

I always assume that,if no reason is offered in the article.
The last one I recall was a sheriff who shot a judge to death in Kentucky, no reason given. Later it came out, something about the sheriff’s daughter.
