Popular nursing influencer Hailey Okula — who gained hundreds of thousands of followers sharing her struggles getting pregnant — has died of complications from giving birth to her first child.
Okula — an ER nurse known online as Nurse Hailey — died from unspecified complications after giving birth to her son, Crew, late last month, her husband, Matthew Okula, wrote on Instagram Tuesday.
Nurse Hailey grew her large following from sharing her infertility struggles in a two-year journey to get pregnant through IVF.
When she was finally able to share the good news in September, she told her followers: “Being able to say that we are pregnant is indescribable.”
“From my infertility problems, to my husband’s infertility problems, to us having to create a special probe because we both carry the same genetic disease, lotsssss of meds and lots of money, the journey has been hard, but so worth it,” she wrote at the time.
Matthew Okula did not reveal exactly when — or how — his wife died, beyond saying it was “due to complications from childbirth.”

Truly tragic.
Very sad.
Second leading cause of peripartum maternal death.
She kinda looked like Joanna gains a bit. Life sure is a crap-shoot sometimes. Th3 husband is truly devestated- sad ending.
This just puts tears in my eyes. It hits too close to home (but no deaths in our family).
Life always ends the same. It’s the inbetween that makes it worthwhile.
Sad news.
Heartbreaking.
That’s right.
Very.
I guess the baby survived and is healthy.
Multiple tragedies. Besides the woman’s death, there’s the fate of her IVF embryos.
Very sad. I don’t understand why some of us who cannot easily get pregnant don’t just accept it, as God’s will/plan? It doesn’t seem to me that God would want women to go through all sorts of stress and possible procedures instead of His natural design. Plenty of babies with no parent and would love to have a willing mom and dad. Unfortunately her child will grow up without her due to her choices. Not to mention all the people she could have continued to help as a nurse. Very sad indeed.
Oof, I wasn’t expecting to have a cry with my morning coffee. Prayers for determined Mom and prayers for Dad and son in their new journey.
God have mercy on her soul.
Childbirth truly is a miracle.
Sad. With today’s medical technology hard to understand how women still
die from child births.
Because creation of life is incredibly complex, utimately God’s domain.
