@RapidResponse47
President Trump has been calling attention to the disaster falsely marketed as "free trade" for decades.
In reality, foreign countries have gotten rich at the expense of the American worker.
Today, he finally levels the playing field.

I've been listening to Kevin O'Leary...from Shark Tank. He's a Canadian and I consider him quite knowledgeable.....He likes what Trump is doing...and he's a Canadian.
Maybe watch one of his interviews if you get a chance.

I love it that even the hand gestures are the same...

Yes, Trump is doing the right thing as it was long overdue. I am, however, disappointed that the tariffs are only half of what other countries charge us.
I was hoping for what Trump said he was going to ask, reciprocity. We should match their tariffs exactly—total reciprocity, not half (until they get rid of them entirely).

I was reminded of Trump's interview with Larry King in 1987...he was so indignant and angry at the way the US has been (and is) taken advantage of in trade with foreign countries.

1987 Trump interview by Larry King
I am certain he still feels that way about this...which is good. Trump is completely consistent.

I’m guessing the choice of half is strategic, using the threat of the other half as leverage in exchange for ???.
Is there something else that Trump sees as a benefit for the USA?

Well, I just would have preferred him starting at the higher level (total reciprocity) and worked his way down from there,
