Ceramic Glass is very close to being like Transparent Aluminum in my books. It has the hardness of sapphire, which is just below diamond.

Corning also said that they are close to producing diamond glass.

article: "According to details shared by the New York-based company"

Who knows where Corning is located? CorningWare is now made in France.

Corning made all kinds of stuff over the years, even fiber optic cables. But whether they make their stuff in America is an open question. During the Space Race Corning made all kinds of stuff for the Space Program.

I suspect that they’ll be able to produce diamond glass, but will it be a cost effective product? Worthless if it costs $4000 per phone.

I saw a video taken at a trade show about glass for a cell phone that was suppose to be near impossible to crack. Demo showed it being hit and surviving. Someone took the phone then hit the glass on the corner of the table. Not too hard. It cracked.

Get a cell phone holder that has rubber and not a smooth surface as this will make it harder to drop. Find one with a wrist strap would be best.

Do the companies that apply this stuff to their phone actually want unbreakable screens?

I suspect they don’t. I suspect they want a screen that is just good enough to take a little abuse, but shatters a bubble in a puppy’s paws when put to the test.
