DOGE senator tells outdoors group to 'go fish' after discovering massive grant tied to high salaries

EXCLUSIVE: A top DOGE leader in the Senate is trying to reel in a massive federal grant from a nonprofit focused on promoting fishing, boating and outdoors that she alleges is being used to pad executive salaries, a characterization the organization rejected.

Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, and her colleagues have been scouring federal grants for appearances of waste, fraud or abuse of taxpayer funds, and came upon a $27 million grant to the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF).

More than $26 million of the grant had been paid out, and long-term figures showed RBFF received $164 million in funding since 2012, with nearly $13 million of that coming in 2024.

From the government website USA Spending, the grant’s purpose highlights RBFF’s "Take Me Fishing" consumer campaign that includes a social and digital media component, as well as ads on Walt Disney Company-branded streaming services and "mobile fishing units" that cater to urban communities and "underserved audiences."

The Disney contract is worth $1.99 million, and other expenditures included $204,000 in SEO consulting, $5 million to a Minnesota agency for media, creative development and design, and $189,000 to an Atlanta hotel.

The Alexandria, Virginia-based nonprofit recorded six-figure salaries for several top officials, totaling more than $1.5 million. The group’s president is reportedly paid about $318,000 per year. Most others fell in the mid-$100s.

However, RBFF officials defended their work in a statement to Fox News Digital, and suggested government funds are being spent responsibly.

"RBFF has a proud tradition of attracting Americans to the sport of fishing and boating," the statement read.

can promise that the folks living in “underserved” areas of these United States of America already know how to fish. no need to promote it because the primary factor in fishing more is the state of the economy. every one around here is fishing more. thank you Mr.biden.

Now that we know about these grants, why not investigate who sponsored them and pin this back to the Congress-critter who should be held accountable.

All year to year grants should be…must be….tied to an accounting report with tangible results. If you can’t put your thumb on real progress, no more money.

Irony:

I’ve never once seen an ad for boating and fishing which the group proclaims is their mission.

Just sayin’

This stupid pig is no DOGE leader, whatever that is. She’s just sticking her snout in it to make sure she can hide any crap they find on her. She’s a deep state shill.

I'm betting some of the buzzwords DOGE's AI looks for are "consulting" and "media" and "design" (and maybe even "hotel" LOL!) Because that's how corrupt companies hide money.

What do you bet the consulting and media companies are run by people related to the beneficiaries or the congressmen, and they have absolutely nothing to show for the money that benefits the cause.

Last year federal spending $6.75 trillion, for each member of House and Senate that is $162 billion.

Way too much money involved for Congress to know much about what it’s actually spent on, so ‘small’ amounts are thrown at thousands of Leftist organizations, a kind of Cloward-Piven strategy to frustrate supervision.

The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) has identified the multicultural consumer as a key opportunity for growth of fishing participation.

Sounds very commie-ish to me

The entire grant system needs to be scrapped.

When we are trillions in debt what business do we have "granting" any money to any entity, even ones we like?

Even if the debt is paid off, what business is this of the federal government?

If that line fails use we’re looking into the issue.

No…. She is just a Senator who saw DOGE as trending and started claiming it for the senate as a cause. Not related at all.

This is total BS. There is no reason for this as people who want to fish do not need to be encouraged to fish and those who don’t don’t need to be pushed. It this was needed, it is a state responsibility, not a Federal responsibility. This is just more money laundering at our expense.

...focused on promoting fishing, boating and outdoors...,

I can find my own spot to fish or boat or ski or water ski or chill out on the beach or .....

Promotions of specific spots is just government subsidizing the local business relying on the government to chanel business in their direction.

This kind of moral rot leads to intellectual rot leads to outright corruption we cannot afford.

“The Alexandria, Virginia-based nonprofit”

It is not a true “non-profit”. A true non-profit would not be getting a dime from the government and would not be located right next to Washington D.C. where it can best ply the federal government for “grants”.

I suggest we end all “grants”.

If the government cannot do it, then just leave it to the private sector to do it, and if can’t be a profitable venture and must be a “charitable” one then there are hundreds of foundations and corporations from whom the “non-profit” can seek grants and donations. Then those foundations and corporations can seek their own audits of the spending of the “non-profit” they have donated to, and pull their donations from those who spend too much on “administration” compared their actual stated mission.

The dirty “non-profit” secret is that there is a Non-for-profit Industrial Complex in the United States for which its primary purpose has become the creation and maintencance of itself, for the purpose of providing continued employment of top executives and staffs in the industry.
