Interesting. I would have thought all of the meat items would show a weight, cost per pound, and total cost; then the total cost would be what scans into the POS system (cash register).
Using electronic pricing, it is possible the price you grabbed the object at will not be the same price by the time you reached the till.
Publix is the most overpriced store in the country, I checked driving coast to coast to coast 2 years in a row. I found Walmart grocery and Costco the best for groceries in the southeast.
At my Publix, if a scanned item is not what is posted on the shelf, the item is free.
Quick quick, run to the store and buy up all of the toilet paper for the tariff pandemic before it hits.
I’ve weighed produce at self check out, but the stores where I shop have bar codes to scan on meat and cheese - even when sliced to order at the deli counter.
bkmk
Wouldn’t put it past the bean counters to conniving the scales. The hidden costs of shoplifting also affects the honest customers.
Best grocery store is WinCo. Lower prices on just about everything.
maybe she stuck her thumb on the scale as it weighed the item?
I HATE self-checkout.
I’ve been shopping at Publix for over 35 years and have always found their customer service to be exemplary. If this woman had a problem as she says my experience says Publix would have made her happy. Whenever I see a lawsuit for something as trivial as what’s described in the article, I immediately assume greed is the motivating factor for the plaintiff and their attorney. If the problem existed in Tampa, why is the suit filed in Miami, a well known center of fraud and corruption?
Publix is THE best grocery chain in the US, and I’ve used a lot of them coast-to-coast. True...some items can be expensive, but there are ways to get around that (maybe don’t by the $28 filet mignon). Their BOGO has saved me big time in the 25 years I’ve lived in Florida. I have nothing bad to say about them.
My wife regularly alerts store managers when the price is wrong or “clearance” items don’t ring up properly. If you let them know, they’ll correct it on the spot.
Could she have accidentally or deliberately put extra weight on the scale? I’m calling this a con.
Meats are not weighted at checkout. Maybe certain produce items are.
I heard that the city of SanDiego is now demanding by law that if a special price is offered for digital devices,it must also be available as a paper coupon.
