At least six people are believed to be dead and another nine injured — six critically — after a tourist submarine sank off of Egypt’s Red Sea coast Thursday.
Twenty-nine of the roughly 40 passengers onboard were rescued, with those injured taken to local hospitals according to the BBC.
The submarine, “The Sinbad,” foundered close to the harbor in the city of Hurghada, a popular tourist destination on the Red Sea known for its beaches.
The vessel can descend 82 feet deep in the sea and offers stunning views of the coral reefs and marine life, according to the website for Sinbad Submarines.
The sub has been in operation for several years, with the company boasting itself for owning two of just “14 recreational submarines” in the world.

Finnish toy subs maintained and crewed by Egyptians speaks to the long and storied maritime histories of both peoples.

Apparently Sinbad ain’t much of a sailor 😏

Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.

That’s the way to do it.....put it on an underwater monorail in 10 feet of water.

The article calls it the “Sinbad”, however “Sindbad” appears to be painted on its side. He only had to ONE THING!

The Finns have been renowned as sailors (not to mention as wizards who can control winds and seas) for 5iusands of years.
But I wouldn’t ride in a bus maintained and driven by Egyptians, let alone a sub.

Sinbad, or Sindbad?
off Egypt’s Red Sea coast.
Strange stuff.
It doesn’t look like the stereotypical ‘overcrowded ferry’.
Nightmare scenario. A submarine is supposed to sink, but the expectation is that it’s going to come back up. ☹️

That should be “hundreds” but could be thousands for all I know.
Don’t mess with the Suomi.

A tourist sub designed for shallow water is a far cry from the oceangate death trap.
Having said that, I wouldn’t get anywhere near a sub owned and maintained by an Egyptian company.

I have been to Hurghada. Barely survived as our cab driver was nodding off , heading straight towards some palm trees.
Needless to say, a Hurghada submarine ride would be out of the question.

Was on one similar in St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. We went down to 30 to 40 feet. You sit on the batteries facing out like you see here. 20 years ago.

My DD214 includes "SS" on it. I can assure you I would not get on any vessel that purposely sinks that isn't crewed by others with the "SS" designation.
Subs ain't bass trackers you can walk off of wearing a life vest, and a life vest is worthless inside a sub.
