Quite the statement, eh? Let me explain. I’m well into my 60s and for my entire adult life I’ve heard that public school teachers are underpaid. It has been repeated as a mantra for decades.
Ignoring for a moment whether it is true or not -- and the answer to that is generally, it depends -- let’s accept the mantra and analyze why public-school teachers are still underpaid after all these years.
It’s not spending. As most voters know, it seems that every stinking year there is some ballot initiative or measure or legislative move to increase spending for our woefully underfunded public-school systems. It never seems to end. There doesn’t seem to ever be a point of “we’re good.”
Total nationwide spending on public K-12 education is approaching a trillion dollars! In most states, public K-12 education consumes around 50% of the entire state budget. Nationwide, we now spend an average of $17,000 per student per year. In New York it is $33,000! Yet teachers remain underpaid.
The Department of Education’s spending has gone from just under $11 billion in 1980 to a high of almost $193 billion in 2010 to last year’s spending of $158 billion. Yet teachers remain underpaid.
The number of administrators versus teachers has exploded -- “The number of district administrators in U.S. public schools has grown 87.6 percent between 2000 and 2019 compared to student growth at 7.6 percent and teacher growth at 8.7 percent.” And many (most?) of the administrators make more than teachers. Yet teachers remain underpaid.
Remember when technology was going to transform public education? We’ve spent billions on classroom technology and what have test scores done? At best stayed flat, in many cases they went down.

Too many parasites.
I wouldn’t say “stupidest”...I’d say “most depraved”.
This is a blanket statement that doesn’t cover every school teacher. Even as an adult ,IMHO, I’ve never met one that wasn’t a liberal and didnt gave me the creeps.
Did your school buy you a calculator or slide rule every year? Why do we have to buy laptops?
They are stupid, it used to be that teaching attracted top students in college, today teachers come from the worst students in college.
Americans of the past were educated by very high quality, intelligent people.
But, but, they are very smart. They gots degreez in eddikashun. (Apologies to all the good ones out there, we know you exist. However, kick out the worthless toad lefties.)
Schools need to go back to using slide rules, no calculators and no laptops, go to the Library for research using books and managed time on a desktop PC.
Before Deep State got involved.
Now public education exists for two purposes...
To grow the public sector.
And to groom ignorant, compliant peons for Deep State.
There are a lot of good teachers. The problem is that there’s also a lot of admin now as well that don’t teach and just sit in an office.
because the world runs on laptops
If you are a participant, a lap top is necessary
She now makes good bux as a Corporate Software Education administrator. Sorry guys...she's gotta a guy. =;^)

During the 80’s, my wife and I both worked for a book publisher. As part of our employee benefits we could get a 40% discount on books. The publisher published mostly educational and technical material, and other publishers were participating and we could also get discounted books from them. When our kids came home from school to do their homework with books that were falling apart, we decided to see why, and offer to get new books at a discount. We were told, oh no we can’t buy new books yet, they aren’t old enough, and we have contracts with distributers. It wasn’t for another couple years when they finally got new and up to date books. Meanwhile the superintendent plays golf with contractors. On our dime of course.
I had a few superstars as school teachers, the majority were mediocre on a good day.
When I was in college in the mid 70’s, at a college known for being one of the best teacher colleges, the teaching degree was considered the dummy degree even back then. It was a degree for the kids who could not handle the rigorous content of the courses an actual degree program offered.
She coulnt be ind9ctrinated! see, like I said IMHO, “ I’ve never ever met a public school teacher that wasnt a lib and wasnt creepy.
Paging “Our Miss Brooks”.
There are good teachers out there. Two of them I raised with my wife. They are solid Christian’s and very conservative with a talent for encouraging children to learn. They could easily make more money in private sector but consider teaching a calling,
They are wise as serpents so they can survive among liberal parents, children and principals.
