@RepThomasMassie
People should not be allowed to use food stamps (EBT) to purchase sugary drinks like Coke and Pepsi.
Libertarian arguments about choice do not apply here. The money being used for EBT was extracted from taxpayers who have no choice in whether to give up their money.

The other half of their obesity is a sit around all day watching TV.
Yep.
I’m from Mississippi. The people using food stamps for that stuff aren’t voting Republican anyway.
Personally, I don’t care what they buy with their food stamps, but unless they have a medical certification of inability to work, or a child under the age of 1, (I know -— some crank out kids to get more benefits), then they shouldn’t get benefits, including food stamps, other than for a short while til they actively search for and find work.
EBT used to be food stamps, which is part of welfare. It is all a multi-trillion dollar scam that makes USAID look like Sunday school, all right under our noses.
We do not want to dictate behavior like Donks, so junk food is their choice ON THEIR OWN DIME. We will not financially help them become sickos.
Dollars to donuts —pun intended—RFKJr puts an end to this.
I loved Trump’s idea about weekly delivery of food boxes.
Learn to cook.
“Not much”. ?
The word billion is far too innocuous. Because a bicycle has two wheels billion makes people think of 2 million. In reality it is 1000×1,000,000. That makes 120,000 million. If it were divided up evenly among the 50 states. there would be 2,400 million dollars doled out to each state.
‘ Because a bicycle has two wheels billion makes people think of 2 million.’
lol.
Little Debbie’s. HoHo’s lots of simple carbs...
If the government is feeding them why should they always kill them with junk food and empty calories. Keep them lean and conscript them later.
“How about 7 Up? I know ways to actually cook with it!”
So did Elvis...
Rice, beans, powdered milk. Keeps you going until you can get back on your feet. Millions of people in other nations subsist on it every day.
NO MORE EBT, near my shop in Pacoima, the streets are lined with sidewalk restaurants funded with their EBT cards. Put up soup kitchens on every corner that needs one
stop screwing around with soda and candy, if you’re gonna bother, fix this all the way instead of just symbolic fixes ...
[OTOH i’m guessing there’s zero will for a real fix since probably everyone in Congress is bought out by some portion of the food industry]
nonetheless, the only way to stop SNAP from slowly killing people with very-expensive-to-treat chronic diseases is to list the things that they CAN buy, because the list of ineligible junk food is simply too long ...
to start with:
meat and seafood in all forms (excluding added sweetener forms)
all forms of legumes (excluding added sweetener forms)
vegetables and fruits in all forms (excluding added sweetener forms as well as all fruit juice)
all WHOLE grains (excluding added sweetener forms)
milk and milk products in all forms
eggs in all forms
seed flour and corn bread, both risen and flat in all forms (excluding fried forms such as chips as well as all added sweetener forms)
all nuts (excluding added sweetener forms)
cooking oils and fats (excluding semi-synthetic forms such as anything made with hydrogenated oils)
baking supplies and seasonings
Or viagra....taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for it.
I would have to agree with that. Junk food should not be covered by EBT. Luxury foods such as prepared food in the deli, lobster, etc. should also not be eligible. Basic food staples such as milk, bread, meat, cereal, etc. should be covered.
If the purpose of the program is to keep people from starving and provide them adequate food and nutrition on low incomes then that should indeed be the purpose.
People who make Coke and Pepsi will do most of the bitchin’
He’s not saying they can’t buy soda. Just that they have to use their own money to do it.
They should be able to buy anything they want with their money. They can’t buy coke and Pepsi with our money.
