I just read a couple weeks ago that soft drinks were the number one item that people bought with food stamps. It was a large percentage - I can’t remember exactly what it was. That’s when people started to question the benefit of food stamps, but to the public in terms of cost and to the people who use them in terms of their health.
I’m agree, but Massie votes with the Dems, so he shouldn’t be involved and he shouldn’t get any credit.
Or cookies and ice cream.
At all.
Along with rice, beans and lentils.
I agree with you about “all things in moderation” but we aren’t talking about EBT cardholders being banned from buying “bad” things—they can still buy whatever they want, they just have to use their own money for some things, not our tax dollars!
You want to lose the south? Stop paying for Coke and Mtn Dew on food stamps. Or Red Bull.
Dictating that stuff should be way, way down on our list.
If such a restriction occurred. The lawsuits would fly hot and heavy that you’re stigmatizing the poor. Psychologists specializing in the mental health of the underclass would appear and spring into action. All intoning sonorously on TV news shows and in front of Congress about the damage being done. Learned studies would be instantly published showing the psychological damage would last generations.
I’ll let them buy anything they want as long as they are not allowed to vote.
Heinlein had it right.
They shouldn’t be able to buy junk food either.
What if they put the cocaine back in it?
Then it’s sore throat medicine.
Tobacco products just fine.
At one time, this was actually the rule. Nothing earth shattering about it. I couldn’t believe it when all the fast food places were allowed to take EBT.
Just get rid of food stamps altogether. It’s a lot easier to find work and live on a budget when you have to.
It used to be that way years/decades ago. You couldn’t buy any crap like that. It should be that way always. No chips, cookies, pop (yes, I say “pop”), etc.
Post 23 and 26 are correct.
I’m old enough to remember when you did not shop on food stamp days.
That way, there is room within the cart for the crab legs.
So was Coca-Cola until they outlawed the coke part.
They’ve already paid conservative influencers to take their side
Three fried chickens and dry toast.
