Standard process of an intelligent state trying to figure out how to respond to an offer from a government that has a 30 year history of continual lying about how it will be treated. From “not one inch closer” regarding NATO expansion toward Russia, to sanctions that never go away despite promises, to blowing up the Nordstream pipeline while not taking credit for it, to ending the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty in 2019, to using the World Reserve Currency system status to isolate Russia in a way that the whole world sees as a move of US imperialism and forces the whole world away from the US dollar or face similar treatment.

Yes, it is intelligent to think long and hard about US promises. Especially as the promises now are being made at the same time the US is supplying missiles to Ukraine that are being launched at Russia and supplying the targeting information from US satellites to hit Russian targets. And this while Russia is winning the war.

Kent to ending the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty in 2019

President Donald Trump announced on 20 October 2018 that he was withdrawing the US from the treaty due to Russian non-compliance --> why are you blaming President Trump?
