The main funder of the scandal-prone Lincoln group of ‘republicans” was the famous conservative David Geffen, a Hollywood producer who never met a leftist or leftwing policy he didn’t like.
**********
Geffen is also one third of SKG Group, including Steven Spielberg and Jeffery Katzenberg, the company that founded DreamWorks Studios.

I have also heard he is a screaming fag.

I don’t care what or who you are. If you are a pathetic parasitic slacker who criminally steals from US Taxpayers, you deserve what Justice you get.

Senator Lisa Murkowski says her Republican colleagues are ‘afraid’ of Trump and Musk."

I can understand that. Swamp creatures don’t want their swamp drained and she is without question a big time swamp creature.

Don’t forget that almost all who claim to be Democrats are commie trash — to them all others are Nazi.

They are fake republicans against trump. You know the Romney types. The Maine and Alaska types. The types that say they are republican but vote against republicans each time it matters. These people should get out of the party. We don’t need or want them. They too often take the place of a real republican that would back Trump. And vote the way their electorate expects.

Heh. I kinda thought we might be on the same wavelength.

“I assume you are not one of those people who take this seriously. Are you?”

Yes and no. I said weeks ago, I think a lot of what Donald Trump says is playing to the gallery; some of it is pure theater. But I’m also a classics scholar. I can even talk in Middle English.

Chaucer nailed it in The Cook’s Prologue, 1390. The host says, “But yet I pray thee, be nat wroth for game. A man may seye ful sooth in game and pley...” (This loosely translates as, “Many a true word is spoken in jest.”)

The reply from Roger is, “Thou seist ful sooth by my fey; But `sooth pley quaad pley,’ as the Flemyng seith.” The Flemish proverb broadly means, presenting something that is genuinely true or serious, as if it’s a joke, is not always appropriate. Basically - take it in the spirit it’s intended, but don’t assume that what appears to be a joke is a joke - and, it also means, if someone keeps doing it, then it wouldn’t be surprising if people didn’t take them at their word.

A lot of Germans thought, for years, Putin was “trolling and posturing” when he banged on about NATO expansion. In 2002 he was on the Council of Europe, and being given the VIP red carpet treatment at NATO meetings. Trump warned them, but the Germans laughed at him. They thought he was joking.

That worked out well for ze Chermanz, didn’t it? The lesson they learned the hard way is, `sooth pley quaad pley’ - but, the same thing that caused the penny to drop and realise they can’t trust Putin, is convincing them that they can’t trust Trump either. Bluntly - most can’t tell if Trump or Putin is joking or not.

We saw the same thing after Vladimir Zhirinovsky told the Duma live on Russian TV that the invasion would kick off in the early hours of Feb 22nd 2022 - in December 2021, before NATO had even had a chance to read Putin’s final ultimatum. Russia’s useful idiots in Germany were convinced that dear old Mad Vlad was “trolling and posturing”. And that worked out well for them too, didn’t it?

In short - One should never discount the possibility that behind what seems to be absurd, there is often a grain of truth. Also, sometimes, someone who’s coming out with a load of smack talk and wearing a big grin while doing it, is actually being very deadly serious.

In conclusion, I think people who are totally freaking out about Canada as if it’s the boogeyman, AND anti-Trumpers freaking out on Canada’s behalf, AND TDS / Musk haters going off on one, all need to dial it down a notch and get a sense of perspective. But dismissing everything as a joke? That’s going too far in the other direction.

Trust, but verify. Don’t just look, observe. Don’t just hear, listen. That’s where I’m at.

Heh, I think those folks who are getting all worked up about Trump acquiring Greenland or making Canada a US State are in one of two groups:

  1. They are inflating it for political and ideologic purposes.

  2. They are thinking shallowly about it because they don't have the time, life experience, or mental acumen to view it in the proper perspective.

Truth is, could Greenland become a US Territory? Sure. It is possible. And if it did, could anyone view Donald Trump as anything other than the greatest leader of the 21st century if it happened? Trump sure did get people talking about it, and I believe, the first step towards achieving any seemingly impossible task is to get people to view it, even abstractly even if just a subject of discussion, as if it could happen.

I believe Trump understands this with acquiring Greenland as a territory or state. He also understands it, I believe with ending the conflict in Ukraine. There, they at least have the two parties involved taking through intermediaries, if nothing else. And that is a start. As for Canada? I have never viewed that activity by Trump as more than trolling, and funny trolling too. It is like flicking someone's ear who is already worked up about something (as Canada is about US relations) and doing it with the full knowledge it just pisses them off. I just think it is funny that people are predictably going bash** crazy both here and in Canada, and it is just who you think it would be, and Trump probably sends out the tweet and then goes back to figuring out how to expand domestic energy production without even missing a beat! I don't know that, but it seems funnier that way.

So yes, in this order, Canada trolling is a joke, Greenland trolling is a form of detached negotiation, and Ukraine is deadly serious.

And yes, it is also true, Trump is absolutely playing to the gallery, because the entire world is his gallery. He is the President of the United States, arguably the most powerful man on the planet Earth. So he has the platform to play to the gallery, a decided egotistical streak that inclines him to play to the gallery, and an understanding the emotional power of applying derisive names to his opponents. People pooh pooh it, but Trump does it deliberately for effect. "Sleepy Joe" Biden. "Low Energy Jeb". "Da Nang Dick" Blumenthal. "Ron DeSanctimonious".

And of course, the ever effective and delightful insults aimed at "Pocahontas" Warren.

He does this for effect, and his use has had the desired effect. It drives them to distraction, blinded by their own hatred. Donald Trump understands the power of memes more than any President that has ever lived. If Trump saw this meme below, I have no doubt he would totally approve of it:

Do I wish our President could be as gentlemanly as Ronald Reagan? Absolutely. But this is 2025, not 1980. Reagan was the right man for 1980. Trump is the right man for 2025.

As for Putin and his longstanding views on having NATO on his border after the fall of the Soviet Union, I simply think it is unforgivable that any German, ESPECIALLY any German would think he was simply trolling them. I never for a second viewed it as anything other than a serious issue, and while it has taken me decades to shed my Cold War skin that I wore growing up and serving in the US Military, I have never viewed the comings and goings of Russia with anything less than wariness...still.

But the Germans, of all people, should have fully understood that sentiment.

And I never view the activities of Communist China, Iran, or North Korea with anything less than seriousness, disgust, wariness, and suspicion.

Communist China because of their up front unapologetic attitude about what they have done, and mean to do to Western economies. Their aim is to win the war without firing a shot.

Iran because I still believe we owe them major payback for taking our diplomats hostage in 1979, and killing our troops and citizens all over the world, never mind the millions of people whose deaths they are responsible for.

And when it comes to North Korea, I believe we owe them an ass kicking someday for their seizure of the USS Pueblo in 1968. If we ever have to do it because they bring it on themselves, I hope I am still alive to see it. And besides the North Koreans are simply batsh**t crazy and a menace to the world.

I find it interesting that you are a classics scholar, a dying breed in today's world. My favorite classical scholar today is Victor Davis Hanson...:)

Virtually none of them are Republicans. Just followers of “The Bulwark”, “Lincoln Project”, etc. ... who are also followers of the Meidas Touch, Majority Report, etc.
