We all called it; female D.I.E pilot.
Like so many now.
The girl may have been a good pilot. Look into her background.
Captain has the responsibility to take over when necessary
He should of tracked her rate of decent on the approach.
Yeah, about 5% of the pilots are women, but they seem to be involved in a lot of the crashes. This girl was young and pretty and the army helicopter pilot who collided by the passenger jet seemed to have big connections through her father. I think there was another near miss with a female flying.
Maybe only most pilots are men because men are generally more suited to be pilots. Getting ridiculous, like with women police and firemen.
Also, total screw up by the pilot who was not flying, but was responsible for taking action to make sure they landed safely. Also by someone in management in putting those 2 clowns together flying the plane.
The student pilot “porpoise” landing, only its not a Cesna 172, and a whole lot more porpoise weight.
In my field, if you take a work day away from teaching, to be on the job to stay current you don’t take a lead position. What the hell is this?
I’m traveling soon. There are very few carriers I am even looking at
I went up in a four seater recently. The pilot is a 3x engineer the latest a phd in aerospace engineering. The mom is in the back seat It’s like the proverbial bus full of nuns. That’s a safe bet. It was a nice flight. Got to co pilot a bit spotting other aircraft miles off we knew were there from radio chatter. I should have taken a Xanax -still.
Traveling the only choices are airlines. Who has the best business practices. Who is more concerned with things other than safety. I was told by my suburban housewife buddy about a year ago to go with a certain airline as it was good about hating Trump. Sick
He should have been sand bagging with a current captain at the stick. Period
I hazard a guess that we won't be surprised.
Another FReeper posted the following the other day (I have not seen sourcing):
The first officer, who was in her fifth straight day of flying, was at the controls of the crashed plane.
She had 1,422 hours of flying total.......
below the FAA minimum to be a commercial pilot.
She was able to fly unsuspecting passengers with a “special exception” from the FAA because she had a specific aviation degree and “received a waiver”...
h/t Liz
I'd say the makeup of a batch of pilots runs the approximate same as an advanced physics class. The few women in the class are usually very good. Aviation leaves very little room for "C" students, male or female.
It’s unclear, at least to me, whether you are referring here to the DC collision or the Canadian crash. IIRC the DC collision is/will be attributed to the H-60’s altitude being higher than its cleared altitude (pilot error). Whereas this Canadian crash initially appears to be overly high rate of descent causing landing gear structural failure (pilot error). Just my $.02 observation.
Either way, pretty sure both will be deemed to be pilot error.
Thank you for the summary.
She had 1,422 hours of flying total.......

The minimum for a commercial pilot is 250 hours. For the Airline Transport Rating the minimus is 1500 hours unless the pilot has a bachelors degree in Aviation Science then it’s 1000 hours and if the pilot has an associates degree in Aviation Science it’s 1250 hours. So likely. she met the requirement for this position. However, the judgement is another question. Ultimately it was the the Pilot in Command’s responsibility to assure the safety of the flight and clearly that didn’t happen,.
Part of the problem is that when the simulator instructor was flying every 3 months he should have been the copilot not the pilot.
I am not a pilot, but the rate of descent being twice what it should have been is something they both should have noticed and decided to go around or something. Were they descending too fast because they were too close to the runway for their altitude?
“Part of the problem is that when the simulator instructor was flying every 3 months he should have been the copilot not the pilot.”
He doesn’t mention this. You have to discern it
I know if I’m sandbagging like this - I have an admin job not a field job- and I have to test for currency I do not want to be in charge. I could be in charge I did those jobs but I don’t. So am rusty. No one wants me to jump in for a day and be in charge
This guy should have taken control. Well. He couldn’t. He was rusty
It was not a problem until now because previously a female pilot made it through merit. She worked her way to get her wings. She was competent. Thanks to Obama/Biden, they believed that we do not have enough female pilots. This is where DEI comes in.
It's quite unfortunate because we have female pilots who got in before Obama/Biden Era and now we are questioning their competence.
This wasn't a training flight. She had her ratings and was at the controls. If she wasn't capable of a routine landing in Toronto, she had the obligation to say so.
She was Pilot In Command (PIC), as the "sole manipulator of the controls", because she needed to build her hours for the airline.
Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) § 91.3 Responsibility and authority of the pilot in command.
(a) The pilot in command of an aircraft is directly responsible for, and is the final authority as to, the operation of that aircraft.
>>Maybe only most pilots are men because men are generally more suited to be pilots.
I think it’s more a case of women getting promoted too quickly to fill the diversity quotas. They’re not given time in grade to develop better judgement.
Broke down?
What do you mean? Why women cops have no problem subduing a 200 pound criminal. I see them doing it on TV shows all the time. Hell, they don’t even muss up their hair. 😁
