President Trump promised Friday to personally cover overtime pay for astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore after they were stranded in space for 286 days — spanning both the 47th president and former President Joe Biden’s terms.

“If I have to, I’ll pay it out of my own pocket,” Trump, 78, told Fox News’ Peter Doocy when asked about the astronauts who were trapped at the International Space Station since June 2024.

Doocy pointed out that NASA had agreed to cover just $5 per day in incidentals for the cosmic crew, amounting to roughly $1,430 in possible back pay.

$ trillions for scams, $1,450 for being left in space to die for 9 months.

I guess minimum wage laws don’t apply in space.

Stacy Abrams gets that much as her daily donut allowance.

This reminds me of the Titanic disaster. The pay for the band (which performed heroically) was stopped the day the ship sank. And their families were billed for the cost of their uniforms.

I wonder if any of today’s NASA administrators are related to the band’s booking agents.

Unacceptable. Lost in space for that long for next to nothing and having to be rescued by Elon Musk because Nasa is to busy teaching dei crap to their recruits.

They should sue Biden (and Bill Nelson) for their full back pay, with overtime for every day that he abandoned them, plus punitive damages.

Once FJB couldn’t bring them home and turn them loose, they went on the clock 24/7 as far as I’m concerned. Just like a job here on Terra Firma. You get told you gotta stay, they own it. Time and a half after 8 hours/per day/ double time every second day off/ if the second day off lands on a Holiday it’s triple time. Prevents people like FJB

While she was still in space, she said she was having health problems. They might both have medical bills in the future. Unless they’re at fault for getting stuck in space, they are owed big time. I can’t even imagine their mental/emotional stress once they heard Biden had refused Musk’s offer to rescue them.

This is right up there with the fires in HI and in CA and hurricane losses in NC — “So sorry you lost everything. Here’s $750.”

I’m glad Trump wants to make it right for the astronauts.

A misleading title. They are paid as if on a business trip.

Their salary is not cut. No allowance for hotels or meals, as those were provided.

They are paid their regular salary.

The “extended stay” space pay sum is absurd. There should be some reasonable compensation for situations like this, a lot more than $1,400. I am curious what their base salary is, because they’re definitely not hourly employees lol

I saw the press conference. Donald didn’t seem to know about the situation then offered to make it good.
