Mercedes-Benz took its boldest swing yet at Elon Musk’s Tesla in a bid to once more set the benchmark for luxury and innovation in the automotive industry.
On Thursday, the German carmaker that invented the modern automobile reinvented its compact sedan, keeping the CLA nameplate and nothing else from the previous two generations of the baby Benz.

And, let’s not forget the Hugo Boss contribution to that parade!
Very stylish boots and uniforms.
Mercedes also said in the early 90s Lexus could never build cars that could challenge them.
Careful Mercedes... I have been awfully brand loyal. At least the country Alfa Romeo falls into isn’t a globalhomo run nation.
MB refuses to admit what VW-Audi-Porsche has already discovered.
The world doesn’t want EV’s that depreciate 40% the first year.
Really? If I remember correctly, Lexus was taken very seriously as a rival then.
However, their later models never reached the same level of quality as the first one. It is said that Toyota, the parent company, didn’t make any revenue on the first one, but only with the later ones…
Sadly, other manufacturers also struggled with declining product quality after the late Nineties. Yes, I‘m looking at you, Mercedes…
Sadly, the commies in the EU want to make them mandatory…
Let us know when the German fags at Mercedes rescue a couple of astronauts from space or catch a returning booster rocket at one of their fag German facilities.
Not even close.
Which “world” you talking about?
Does it include China by far the biggest auto and EV market on the planet, where EV sales are booming??
“Mercedes market cap $63 BILLION
Tesla market cap $804 BILLION
Not even close.”

On the money. Literally. That says it all.
M-B hedging the bet. Hybrid ICE version will also be avilable.
Real price on current versions are $50k range. Look for big bump up for the EV version. Small *expensive* sedans are a small market.
Mercedes ranked number 29 out of 30 based average predicted reliability based on the annual Consumer Reports member survey.
Chrysler was number 30.
Lexus, Toyota, Mini, Acura and Honda were the top five.
What I fail to understand is WHY do people continue to buy these automobile brands? They are crap. This data is published every year. It is not a secret. This is not the first year these brands are in the bottom of the list.
Mercedes also said in the early 90s Lexus could never build cars that could challenge them.
++++++++
If they (M-B) said this, they were wrong on a spectacular level. Like two ships passing in the night. When the Lexus brand launched, their quality was phenomenal. M-B was focusing on putting 50+ various computerized systems in their vehicles which made them:
-unreliable
-unaffordable
-service nightmare
M-B destroyed their brand. In the 1980’s those cars were bulletproof. I was a M-B loyal owner. They lost me forever, unless I get a 1967 280SL or a 6.3 sedan
Dang, that is a beautiful car....screw the rest of them...
Indeed end of story.
I checked the news didn’t see any story about people burning Mercedes-Benz guess they liked the guy and his ways.
What’s you beef with Germans and Mercedes Benz?
Mercedes is crap. Quality sucks. Customer service sucks. Maintenance sucks. It does nothing well, not even ride well.
