Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko reportedly said that the Kremlin wants an "ironclad" guarantee that Ukraine will be prohibited from joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), as the Trump administration works to broker a deal to end the fighting.

"We will demand that ironclad security guarantees become part of this agreement," Grushko was quoted by the Russian newspaper Izvestia as saying, according to Reuters. "Part of these guarantees should be the neutral status of Ukraine, the refusal of NATO countries to accept it into the alliance."

Ukraine does not belong in NATO. IMO NATO is on its way out anyway. If we leave its over.

Despite previous “ironclad” agreement to respect Ukraine’s borders if Ukraine gave up nukes

I'll take "Things That Didn't Happen" for $400, Alex.

! I thought you guys were all “Putins winning!”

He could have kept his guys home and never gotten the Swedes and Finns on his case. Or he could withdraw now.

The Euros are mad. They have opened their wallets. Thats a very bad sign.

At some point it wont matter if Ukraine is in NATO or not, or even if NATO exists. Its fixing to be the Euros vs Putin.

Bluster from both sides. Uk lost its ability to defend itself when it believed the West’s promises of security as a condition to their giving up the nukes they had when the USSR collapsed.
Any agreement can be violated. There is no such thing as “ironclad”. Sounds like CNN crappola.

WUT next, a pinkie swear?

It will instantly be replaced by all-Euro OTAN (NATO in French). An improvement, without US interference.

“Since Russia is the winner of the war it gets to dictate the terms.”

At the end of WWI there were no troops on German territory. They sued for peace because their economy had collapsed. There’s no way Russia has “won.” They’ve lost somewhere in the neighborhood of one percent of their male population. The unemployment rate is at a disastrous 2 percent. They have lost the trust of the entire Western world, their best customer. They may be sitting on some Ukrainian territory. But they have “lost” in so many ways and those ways will continue to count, and hurt, for the next generation.

Because the culture and economy will be so bad for the next twenty years, they will face an epic brain drain. It’s hard to generate any metric that says, Hey, we won.

Yes Europe needs to defend itself. Not that there’s anyone to defend from anymore.

Putin.
The head of steam being built up in the Euro military buildup is enormous.
Whatever Trump does is not going to stand, because its not just up to him and his “deal”.

Putin is not a threat to Europe. He doesn’t even want much of the Ukraine. He can’t afford it on a GDP slightly larger than the state of Texas. Plus he’s just not interested in it.

Russia has lost around 100,000 soldiers. Ukraine has lost around 1.2 million soldiers. And has lost about 10 million people who have fled the hellhole of Ukraine left by the US corruption parade and the war we demanded.

Russia’s economy is growing at a faster GDP rate than the US. Russia’s Christian churches are thriving. Its urban centers are thriving with almost no crime. Russia is not suffering at all from the US sanctions which drove it to set up the BRICS system so it could conduct business while the US Reserve Currency was being used as a weapon to punish US enemies. BRICS is growing steadily. On the warfront, every day Russia advances and gains more territory while the Ukraine leader and the NATO partners say “let’s kill more Ukainians”.

Are you actually going to deny that at the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw pact, Ukraine had nukes and them up for a promise of security?

You can have your own opinion but you can’t have your own history.

They weren’t under the control of the Ukrainian government.

By your logic, Turkey has nukes because the US has nukes on a base there.

I was talking about cold war decades. Mexico was smart to realize it would be foolish to join Soviet block like Cuba did living on border of a more powerful neighbor. Ukraine not so smart. Now result is Ukraine is destroyed and unlivable. I feel bad for millions of Ukes forced to flee the country as refugees. Florida has so many Ukrainian women forced to sell their bodies to survive.

“”””Christian churches are thriving.””””

That isn’t true at all, the government church only has from less than 1% to maybe 3% church attendance on Christmas and the Protestants and Catholics are harassed and persecuted.
