"Volare" (Italian for 'To fly'), is a song originally recorded by Italian singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno in 1958. In 1960, the song was recorded by Italian-American singer Bobby Rydell, reaching number four on the Hot 100 during the summer of 1960.

Oh, oh, oh, oh,.....
Ugly car ruined that song
It was Ricardo Montalbán that did that.
I thought he covered the Cordoba.
I thought Dean Martin sang this one. Maybe just on his own show.
The faint memory I have of either singer; I used to get Bobby Rydell mixed up with Bobby Darin. Both tended to perform wearing a suit jacket.
He’s gonna fart the song!
Most did. Class back then.
But there were many “Bobbys”. Seemed at the exact same time.
The Italian version ended up the #1 song of the year on Billboard.
The Rydell version was #54 on the year.
Oh, and yes, Dean Martin did sing it.
In the ‘50s, lots of acts covered the same song in a very short time.
You might be right. Volare and Cordoba have the same number of syllables, so when I play it in my head from memory either one works. It's been more than 40 years, and I have CRS disease.
Toward the end, he reveals that his dream was inspired by his lover's eyes "which are blue like a sky studded with stars" (Che sono blu come un cielo trapunto di stelle). And the music he hears is his lover's voice.

I heard that on the radio the other day but I didn’t recognize the voice.
Americans have always shown a certain fondness for foreign songs which they can’t understand but have good melodies and good orchestration. “Volare” is one such and so is 1963’s “Sukiyaki”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UIn3lufcZ0
I will listen to those two any time. My wife likes Il Volo, three young Italian guys who sing a lot of those kinds of songs, along with some of the better-known operatic works. They are a mainstay of PBS fundraisers and they tour in America.
the singing nun and her “Dominique”
”1963’s “Sukiyaki”. ” Love this song !
I have attempted to sing it in Japanese in various Tokyo karaoke bars in the past with a modicum of success . Always brings back memories of my 38 year life here in Japan .
Another foreign song was by The Singing Nun in the 60’s called Domenique !
I really liked the “Quantum Leap” version... but that was before actors had to get all “political” — Bakula is probably a “woke” jerk now
*sad*
Ah such innocent times, charming lyrics sung by guys in coat and tie.. glad to have experienced the pre-British-Invasion music era..
(Bakula is probably a “woke” jerk now
*sad*)
There ain’t no probably about it
NCIS:New Orleans was an abomination
