I read an article at American Thinker from someone, who might be Jewish. Two points I vaguely remember. One was that some Jews hoped that something (global socialism?) would bring an end to attacks on Jews. The other was that recent world history had disproven this belief.
I wonder about the Jewish influence in the early days of Soviet communism. What role did Jews play in the Holodomor? An atheist murderer with a Jewish background would be remembered better than an atheist murderer with a Christian background. That is human nature.
Thanks for your post. It is not welcome news, but it’s best to know the truth.
“It’s the ultra-religious Jews who are most hateful.”
I have no real handle on Orthodox Jews. I sort of lumped them with the Amish. That may be pretty silly, come to think of it.
It would not be surprising if some Orthodox Jews felt this way about Christians. Protestant and Catholic antagonisms were once very strong, especially in Europe.
A funny story. My mother was Catholic. She worked in the Pentagon in WWII. A co-worker never knew a Catholic before and said she was expecting horns.
Did Islam blow up the USS Liberty killing American navy sailors who were defending them? No, that was Israel. And it was done purposely to manipulate the US into war. Now, the same game is played and whenever Israel wants us to be there in their war we come, after they manipulate situations to draw us in. And pay off our politicians.
When the non-Jew encounters the Jew, he is, consciously or subconsciously, struck by a grandeur of spirit, a depth of living, a resonance of eternity, an echo of the Divine, that is not easily described but very palpable. There is something about the Jew and Judaism that is larger than life, and the non-Jew feels it, sometimes more acutely than the Jew.
..........
Not sure here.
But every religion has that piece that thinks it has something that others do not have.
Antisemitism is stupid. So is its misuse.
No different from calling us racist because we didn’t support Obamacare.
So, someone asking for posters to make the conversation intelligible is anti-semitism?Wow.
Jews were heavy in Menshevik and Bolshie movements
Very heavy
Stalin using Trotsky as a pretense largely put a perm hurt on all that
Their affinity first for Euro anarchy and later Bolshie crap was a reaction to czarist brutality which was. Quite real
Comfort the afflicted
Afflict the comfortable
Naturally inclined to anti pluralism and change
Obviously not all
Especially today
It’s not just them
I think modern works Catholics and some prods too are far less socially conservative than fundie Baptist or church of God
Jews are in a quandary now
Hostiles are in the perimeter
One can extrapolate from enough anecdotal evidence.
I grew up in a heavily (though not majority) Jewish neighborhood in New York City. Attended universities with large Jewish populations. Have long lived in a heavily (though not majority) Jewish neighborhood in Los Angeles. And have work in media and entertainment alongside many Jews for decades (though now retired).
Plus, I was often mistaken for Jewish by Jews. I apparently have Jewish features, and Jews are as prone to stereotyping as anyone else. Which meant that Jews occasionally made remarks to me, whom they thought to be a fellow Jew, that they would not have made with gentiles present.
Yes, many Jews do harbor animosity toward Christianity.
There is a double standard. When Christians hurt Jews, it's "anti-Semitism." When Jews hurt Christians, it's "anti-Semitism" to mention it. (Much like it's "racist" to mention the harm that blacks inflict on whites.)
An Israeli writer: Stalin's Jews.
No.
I was simply returning the thread to its topic.
Fascinating reading.
“In 1934, according to published statistics, 38.5 percent of those holding the most senior posts in the Soviet security apparatuses were of Jewish origin. They too, of course, were gradually eliminated in the next purges.”
So, in effect Jews are no better than the rest of us. By the way, I have a distant Jewish relative who was a member of the NKVD. What harm he did, I do not know. I know he did not live a long life himself.
A book on the history of taxation had an interesting take on the periodic pogroms that afflicted the Jews. Jewish leaders were responsible for collecting taxes on Jews to give to the nobility. When it was suspected that they were holding out, a pogrom would be incited. Basically, it was tax enforcement.
“With all that OUR gov’t has been up to, the Israelis may have had good reason to go after the Liberty.”
I had the same thought. I admit that I know nothing about the case.
Fine, thanks.
I find this to be a very interesting thread. Many are reacting to the excerpt, other events, and comments to the thread.
Going back to the article, there is Jewish self-puffery on a grand scale that is unwarranted. For example:
“When the non-Jew encounters the Jew, he is, consciously or subconsciously, struck by a grandeur of spirit, a depth of living, a resonance of eternity, an echo of the Divine, that is not easily described but very palpable. There is something about the Jew and Judaism that is larger than life, and the non-Jew feels it, sometimes more acutely than the Jew.”
I might as well be reading some over-the-top Muslim or Christian scholar. This text is a form of religious extremism regardless of the religion.
Judaism is a great advance. Christianity likewise. Islam is an evil, man-made religion.
Atheists have nothing to brag about. Considering the government murders in the atheist Soviet Union and communist China, atheism has a worse track record than all religions but Islam.
That is interesting.
There is a persistent complaint against banking One variant is to complain about Jews in banking. I think both are based on misunderstandings. Jewish “control” of banking is one rationale for antisemitism.
Banks are not evil. Nor is interest, nor money creation. People should learn some proper economics.
In Europe the prestige thing was to become a landowner. Jews were discouraged. They were allowed to be money changers, which was held in very low esteem. In both cases, enforcement was by government. Government has a knack for backward-looking policies. Take windmills (please).
Agriculture was an industry in decline, so being kept out of land ownership may have been an unintended favor. Money-changing evolved into banking an ascendent industry. Forced into money-changing / banking was an unintended favor also. Governments, trying to stick it to the Jews, made Jewish fortunes.
“One is Jewish and the other is the group sold as slaves by Jewish traders to help Anglo’s develop the New World.”
Muslim slave traders sold Blacks to Europeans, not just Anglos, to help develop the New World. Only 6% of those purchased came to the English colonies / US. Some 30% went to Brazil, which had been colonized by the Portuguese. About 30% went to the Caribbean, which had been colonized by the French, Spanish, and English.
Arab Muslims enslaved Black Africans for several centuries. Slaves were used in sugar plantations. Europeans at the time used honey as a sweetener. The Europeans got the idea of using Black slaves to produce sugar from the Arabs. I’m in Florida and there are the remains of an old sugar plantation just a few miles away.
Agreed.
At some point, the original article goes off the deep end and spouts self-serving nonsense.
Some of people posting on this thread also go off the deep end. There certainly is wisdom in the Bible. However, some people pick a sentence and then proceed to extrapolate nonsensically.
Yep. Lived near the “Rez” in a significantly Jewish town. Extended family are married in jews. Like any other group when you live cheek and jowl any presuppositions vanish.
Lived with all flavors of reform and conservative.
Hell the girl next door had a Bubby arrange her marriage at age 14. To a surgeon in training. The rock was 3k.
They didn’t want to mix. A d we didnt.
