A licensed embalmer from Texas is facing charges after officials say she cut off a dead man’s penis in February with a scalpel after finding out he was a registered sex offender.
According to Constable Alan Rosen of Harris County, 34-year-old Amber Laudermilk is charged with felony abuse of a corpse for the incident at Memorial Mortuary and Crematory.
Officials say Laudermilk cut off the genitals of Charles Roy Rodriguez, 58, who was a registered sex offender.
A report from KPRC said Laudermilk allegedly then stuffed the man’s penis in his mouth before his cremation.
According to witnesses, Laudermilk did it after learning Rodriguez was a registered sex offender.
A charging document also states Laudermilk was in the presence of an embalming student at the time.
KPRC reports that Laudermilk allegedly told the trainee, “You didn’t see anything.”
Rodriguez died of natural causes at a Houston hospital in January. Officials said he was charged with sexual assault in 2001.
Laudermilk is no longer employed. She is charged with felony abuse of a corpse.
State officials are seeking to suspend or revoke her license.
“This case is about two troubled people: the victim who was a registered sex offender and the defendant, who is accused of viciously attacking his dead body,” Constable Alan Rosen said in a statement. “No matter what one thinks of his life, the law requires that he be treated with dignity in death.”
Rosen went on to say that he hopes Laudermilk gets “the help she needs.”
“I don’t know the suspect’s past, but we have the utmost empathy for anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault or is the family or friend of someone who has been the victim of a sexual assault,” Rosen said. “The facts clearly indicate she was angry, and I hope after this is resolved in the courts, she gets the help she needs.”
As she should be. Very not-thrilled with the man's crimes, but corpses should not be desecrated.
I’ve never quite understood that.
Was Cromwell a good guy or a bad guy?...................
Might be a good trade-in for a shorty.
Good or bad, there are times in history when guys like Cromwell seem necessary. For example, I’m pretty sure giving Cromwell charge of California for 5 years would work a great improvement.
That was my first thought.😄
Not sure why she is in trouble.
Dang!
All right now,, Q. Don’t get personal. (Sadly, in my case, the wallet would turn into a ... well ... a bigger wallet — but no complaints here!) Cheers!
Supposedly, your mortician is the last man to let you down.
To perform post-mortem surgery.
If she had been granted a jury trial and I was on the jury , I would have voted to acquit!
very true. uncle was a mortician when I was growing up. he told me that there were times just before the embalming process that a body would suddenly sit bolt-upright and he’d have to lay it back down. always made me wonder if a dead person knows they are dead.
I had a guy that worked me, but he had a part time job at a local mortuary. He said when they roll the fatties in the oven, you can hear the lard sizzle and pop.
Nothing sacred about a corpse, but the real problem is that this sort of behavior isn’t going to get any better.
Slippery slope and all that.
“Texas’ online sex offender registry shows that Rodriguez was convicted of sexually assaulting a 31-year-old woman more than a decade ago.”
From what I have read that the movement in a dead body is a form of rigor mortis. Can start 12 hours after death and last for 12- 24 hours longer. The longevity of the effect can vary based on other factors.
I worked in Funeral Service for three years, and such a thought would never have occurred to me. Of course, that was at a time when there were very few females in the business.
I can sympathize with her reasoning, but the law is the law.................maybe a small fine and a few months probation.................
