Give each resident $5,000 and its ours

Send them a check for $100,000. And they can qualify for Medicare.

I want to retire where there are very few people.

Just give me a good internet connection and a decent library. I will have a dog to take walks with and will keep my freezer full of meat.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I could have written those exact statements when I retired 15 years ago. Having made up my mind for the reasons you’ve described, I purchased a 90-acre farm in the beautiful Allegheny mountains of western Maryland where I still live today.

Alaska is nearly 5 times as densely populated as Greenland.

Why buy them off? The current population is nowhere near the numbers of workers that will be needed to build and operate the mines and support structure. Add in the skill sets needed, and you must have somewhere in the area of 100K additional people (Americans workers with their families) moving there.

That number of Americans will eventually convince the native population to accept statehood and all its benefits.

The key is to keep the unions out, or the place will become another Dem hell hole.

I find this odd but encouraging. I know nothing about the internal politics of Greenland. As Greenland is a territory of Denmark but not Denmark, I always thought what Denmark says is what Greenland natives want. If someone knows the internal politics of Greenland please post.

I don’t want Greenland, but I would be happy if the people there want more economic investment from the US.

“Maybe cold weather makes people leftist IDK.”

It used to be called “communalism”. Life in the cold is hard, and you can’t make it alone. I think that’s why the goofs in Minnesota are so leftist, but that’s a leftover from a previous century. They just haven’t caught up.

You may not want it, but there are too many resources in Greenland to not want it.

“...but there are too many resources in Greenland to not want it.”

I see no reason to seize it, but I’m sure the people there would agree to investment, and a side deal could be opening it up to increased security sites.

Looks like a win-win, except for the poor enlisted men who get stationed in northern Greenland.

Greenland citizens would LOVE to be part of America no doubt. However Denmark will surely fight against this as we now see. Left to the people Greelanders are excited about the possibility.

Well there are people (soldiers) who love working in cold weather.

“ Alaska is nearly 5 times as densely populated as Greenland.”

What about Siberia, soon to be known as West Alaska.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. The Demokraatits came back and won:

Greenland’s pro-business opposition Demokraatit party won Tuesday’s closely watched parliamentary election.

Demokraatit, which favours a slow approach to independence from Denmark, secured 29.9% of the votes with all ballots counted, up from 9.1% in 2021, ahead of the opposition Naleraq party, which favours rapid independence, at 24.5%.

Just because a party has Democrat in its name does not mean it has the same ideology as our Democratic party.

Yeah, polar bear and seal meat, eh? ;-)

Better yet, demand that they build some pickleball courts!

That will keep you warm on frigid nights.

Nice dream, Sam Adams.

You could probably enjoy that. What I’ve seen of Greenland reminds me of the 20 years I lived in Alaska. They were the best years of my life, with the nicest people, beautiful scenery, etc. As long as you don’t have to venture out in the snow often if you don’t want to, it could be a wonderful retirement for you.

Does Greenland count votes like California? No updates since 7 last night.
