The White House went on to document $8 million in federal spending on transgender mice.
One of President Donald Trump's more astounding claims during his address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night ended with egg on the face of "Fake News losers" at CNN when they tried to fact-check him.
"$8 million to promote LGBTQI+ in the African nation of Lesotho, which nobody has ever heard of," he said during the address. "$60 million for indigenous peoples and Afro-Colombian empowerment in central America, $60 million. $8 million for making mice transgender. This is real!"
CNN reporters initially said the claim was false and said they could not determine where the president came up with the $8 million figure. Eventually, the article was corrected to say the claim "needed context" and deleted the content calling it false.
"An earlier version of this item incorrectly characterized as false Trump's claim about federal money being spent for 'making mice transgender.' The article has been updated with context about the spending, which was for research students on the potential human health impacts of treatments used in gender-affirming care," the article read.
The two versions were posted to social media by the popular "Libs of TikTok" account.
CNN was mocked and ridiculed by many on over the gaffe, but then the White House pounced on the news outlet.
"The Fake News losers at CNN tried to fact check President Trump saying Biden spent $8 million on 'making mice transgender,' but President Trump was right (as usual)," the administration wrote on its official social media account.

Republicans pounce !
For any who missed it Lesotho was deeply offended by President Trump’s remarks:
https://www.reuters.com/world/lesotho-insulted-after-trump-says-nobody-has-heard-country-2025-03-05/
If you want to troll some leftists try this:
“I voted for President Trump six times but his cruel attack on Lesotho was too much for me. We should be giving a lot more money to Lesotho.”
Lol.
The mice in question were TRANSGENIC.
“Transgenic refers to an organism or cell whose genome has been altered by the introduction of one or more foreign DNA sequences from another species by artificial means. Transgenic organisms are generated in the laboratory for research purposes.”
“This technique is routinely used to introduce human disease genes or other genes of interest into strains of laboratory mice to study the function or pathology involved with that particular gene.”
Correct, but context is everything:
“for research students on the potential human health impacts of treatments used in gender-affirming care”
It was both transgenic and transgender.
Right, but Dems gently and lovingly correct.
This study wastes our money and makes you wonder what is the big hang up with the left on transgender stuff anyway.
Also, it’s cruel to mice.
A. But it has zero to do with transgender.
B. You really take issue with lab mice being used to study cancer?? “Oncomice [lab mice] are another genetically modified mouse species created by inserting transgenes that increase the animal’s vulnerability to cancer. Cancer researchers utilize oncomice to study the profiles of different cancers in order to apply this knowledge to human studies.”
I seen this country on that really great show “Vikings” - it was all thems Amazon chicks versus Bjorn Ironside
““$8 million for making mice transgender. This is real.”
He misspoke.
Nope—President Trump told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth:
“for research students on the potential human health impacts of treatments used in gender-affirming care”
I actually know about Lesotho. At one time, it had the highest AIDS rate in the world. Maybe it still does...
CNN Fact checkers get it wrong more than my weatherman.
Who will now provide counseling for these mice? Being cut off by the American tax payers must be traumatic. I suspect suicide rates will sky rocket. How will Trump be able to sleep at night?
CNN can’t even get their propaganda stories right par.
