Rep. Sylvester Turner (D-Texas) died late Tuesday after serving just two months and a day in Congress, party officials said Wednesday. He was 70.

Turner, who was elected in 2024 to replace longtime Houston-area Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee following her death while in office, had attended President Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress the night of his passing.

“We were on the floor together last night. You never know for whom the bell will toll next,” Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), who was ejected from the House chamber for repeatedly disrupting Trump’s remarks.

“He had been treated for bone cancer...................”

Poor bastard, I don’t know if this is still true but at one time the only sure “treatment” for this (and only when caught early-stage) was a saw. Painful, also.

Can the Governor appoint a replacement? In other words are we gaining a seat?

Ballotpedia has already updated his status in Wiki fashion.

Sylvester Turner (Democratic Party) was a member of the U.S. House, representing Texas’ 18th Congressional District. He assumed office on January 3, 2025. He left office on March 5, 2025.

He’s dead Jim.

He took 69% of the vote in 2024.

Turner was a replacement candidate after Shelia Lee withdrew after the March 5, 2024 (exactly one year ago).

Ballotpedia shows he already had a 2026 opponent.

Cyrus Sajna (Republican Party) is running for election to the U.S. House to represent Texas’ 18th Congressional District. He declared candidacy for the 2026 election.

No, all house seat replacements across the country are by special election.

“No such thing as cancer free.”

Nine years cancer-free. My oncologist says that the cancer I had will NEVER return.

Why do t we pull a New York, like they’re doing in The case of the Stefanik vacancy: change the and set the special election in November. Sorry for his passing but it helps with our majority, and I take consolation from that in this time of grief

Your body produced cancer because your immune system can not recognize cancer cells, which are our own cells with faulty DNA. Faulty cells are produced by the billions in every body, and the immune system destroys them before they form a tumor.

If your cancer was caught early and was caused by sudden exposure to cancer causing incident such as over-exposure to ultra-violet causing skin cancer, it is possible your immune system is still functional. And the cancer was local and excised by treatment.

What is really insidious about cancer is that it can start in some place in body, and there are no symptoms. If cancer is growing in Liver, it takes months and years before symptoms show up. There is no way to detect early cancer without constant biopsies in every organ.

The real bad part is all cancer treatments also kill normal cells and weakens the body. Therefore enjoy everyday we are blessed with health.

Ain't that the truth
