Just before 4 p.m., Hector Alaniz’s mother called police to “report that her son was suffering from mental illness and may be a danger to others,”
Officers saw that he had what appeared to be a black pistol, and as he entered a driveway, he pointed the gun at officers, prompting the use of a 40 mm less-lethal launcher and at least one officer to open fire, police said.
“Despite the suspect being struck by both gunfire and 40mm [less-lethal] projectiles, he again continued to flee until an officer discharged a TASER, incapacitating Alaniz, allowing officers to take him into custody without further incident,”

When the airsoft pistol looks like a real gun, expect to be shot. Even if you are having a mental breakdown.
Calling the police is a last resort to solving a problem.
But the police have no resolution to the problem either!
And, things frequently go badly!
The police did fine.
IMO, not a situation where you can take chances.
Echo Park...The echo’s they hear are from gunfire. Mental case with a gun or toy gun...You’d have to be a mental case to live there.
Thanks, Mom!
Calling the police is a sure fire way to get someone shot! If you have a relative that you don’t like you can call the cops to kill them and get a nice lawsuit lottery payout from said cops.
Calling the police is a last resort to solving a problem.
There's no problem that can't be made worse with the presence of a police officer.
‘ There’s no problem that can’t be made worse with the presence of a police officer.’
Maybe we should defund them.
I always tell my clients don’t call the cops unless you want someone arrested or shot.
Who ya gonna call? Psych-busters.
