Measles outbreak is call to action for all of us

As the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I am deeply concerned about the recent measles outbreak. This situation has escalated rapidly, with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reporting 146 confirmed cases since late January 2025, primarily in the South Plains region. Tragically, this outbreak has claimed the life of a school-aged child, the first measles-related fatality in the United States in over a decade.

Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness with certain health risks, especially to unvaccinated individuals. The virus spreads through direct contact with infectious droplets when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. Early symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a characteristic body rash. Most cases are mild, but rare complications can be severe, including pneumonia, blindness, and encephalitis. Prior to the introduction of the vaccine in the 1960s, virtually every child in the United States contracted measles. For example, in the United States, from 1953 to 1962, on average there were 530,217 confirmed cases and 440 deaths, a case fatality rate of 1 in 1,205 cases.

The current Texas outbreak has predominantly affected children, with 116 of the 146 cases occurring in individuals under 18 years of age.

OK. Close the borders. Expel illegal aliens. Faster. That will help. Also measles is not often fatal. I personally survived it. No fun for sure.

Close the border to illegals. All immigrants should be either vaccinated or coming from a country that had irradicated measles.

It's time for everyone to mask up, work from home and get vaccinated.

It worked last time!

OK, but,

“For example, in the United States, from 1953 to 1962, on average there were 530,217 confirmed cases and 440 deaths, a case fatality rate of 1 in 1,205 cases.”

440 annual deaths isn’t insignificant for an utterly preventable disease.

I had measles as a kid. Does that mean that I cannot get it at again age 60?

“All immigrants should be either vaccinated or coming from a country that had irradicated measles.”

But WE obviously haven’t irradicated measles.

That’s the way it used to be before illegals became political pawns. When immigrants came thru Ellis Idkand, they were given health assessments. If they had any illnesses, particularly contagious ones, they were put back on the boat and sent home.

Dr. Peter Hotez, a noted vaccine researcher, has predicted that multiple viruses could impact the U.S. starting January 21st, 2025, the day after Donald Trump's inauguration. Social media posts have interpreted this as a threat or fear-mongering, but Hotez's statements also align with ongoing global health concerns about diseases like bird flu, new coronaviruses, and mosquito-borne illnesses. This prediction comes amidst reports of an unknown flu-like disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has killed nearly 180 people.

BREAKING: Vaccine researcher Peter Hotez says multiple viruses will be unleashed on America the day after Trump takes office.

“We have some big picture stuff coming down the pike starting on January 21st.”

To answer my own question -

.

” Current evidence suggests that immunity after the disease is life-long…”

Agreed. Also, when processing through Ellis Island they were given a brief orientation to keep some behaviors back in their prior countries.

You come from a country that does honor killings? We don't play that here? You come from parts of Mexico where the age of consent is 12 and the rest of Mexico where the consent laws aren't enforced anyway? Here we put your butt in prison for that mess.

In our nihilist society, we no longer tell immigrants to assimilate.

And the 530,000 cases are the ones reported and confirmed. I can guarantee you that all the cases in my small town when it was going around were not reported in the 1960s.

So there are probably 10 times that number of actual infections.

Peter Hotez is very much PRO-vaccination and has made innumerable appearances debunking anti-vaxxers.

Please source your clamim that he said, “multiple viruses will be unleashed on America the day after Trump takes office.

I assume they mean yearly...
or a 0.0082680346505816 chance of death...
how many of all cases besides death got the measles more than once ?

I watched the whole video. Baker is a doctor of internal medicine, so essentially my podiatrist is as much an authority on epidemiology.
