“I am trying to think of how much I'm going to share right now,” began Jolie when asked what it meant to win her Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 2000 for Girl, Interrupted.
She then remembered tuning into the 1979 Academy Awards the year her father, Jon Voight, won Best Actor for Coming Home. Voight separated from Marcheline Bertrand, mother to Jolie and her brother James Haven, in 1976; their divorce was finalized in 1980.
“My mom was home with two little kids,” Jolie explained... “My mom's dream was to be an actor. I believe my mother's mother's dream was to be an actor, which is probably why she took her to the theater in Chicago all the time.”
The Eternals star recalled of Bertrand, who died in 2007 at age 56, telling her the story of watching Voight attend the starry event on television. “She was in her twenties, because she had me when she was very young. She was divorced to a very famous man and she was home with her babies in an apartment watching him win an Oscar with the other woman.”
Voight’s date to the 1979 Oscars, the “other woman,” was actress Stacey Pickren.
“It was kind of just a part of our family history,” Jolie said. “I remember thinking that [Bertrand] was there for me and my brother and that was the choice she made. And how she must have felt on that night always really stuck with me.”
So when it was Jolie’s turn to attend and win at the 2000 Oscar ceremony, she thought of her mother, saying: “To have that moment, to get off that stage and call her and say, ‘It's yours' — and I gave it to her — one of the best moments of my life.”

AJ has been a hot mess for decades. Not just a mental case. Perversions. Messed up her kids.
One small example: “...her (Shiloh’s) parents didn’t tell her that she truly was male, but rather they accepted her stereotype nonconformity and acknowledged her as more like her brothers than her sisters.”

You could say the same thing about Jolie. She’s broken up more than one relationship.
Jolie is broken. Pitt is as well, though I don’t know why offhand. People who can’t hold relationships together tend to be broken.
Exactly.
Really?
And Laura Dern.
There always is. I don’t know what happened here and I know Voight was no saint. That said, my ex wife, to whom I gave more chances than I should have to work together to fix things, also gets upset about ‘the other woman’. Well, she didn’t want me. Someone 20 years younger and 100 times more awesome does. While my ex drinks wine and pets her cat. I wish her all the best.
During a ceremony h9noring war veterans, it was raining g out before,it stsrted, and voit was out in the rain, by himself practically, wiping down the seats so that the veterans didn’t have to sit on wet seats. Whatever else he might have do e in his life earlier, that act has stuck with me as being a great example of humble gratitude towards others- being who he is, he could have ordered someone else to do it, but didn’t. And no, no one was standing near him ho,ding an umbrella for him. He got soaked doing it
Oh yeah? You think that is something? I once saw a movie of his... so there! 😆
I’ve read that Pitt was raised in a solid Christian home, and might be getting back to,his roots- hope for his sake it’s true and that he is.
This semi-filthy limerick is dedicated to brave & stunning Darryl and the Oscars
There was an old Scot named MacTavish
Who attempted a gibbon to ravish.
But the object of rape
Was the wrong sex of ape —
And the anthropoid ravished MacTavish.
Daddy issues.
Explains a lot.
Says the woman whose been married three times?
Re: honoring veterans.
Like father like daughter in this regard:

glad she has a heart like that-
So, because of her feeeelz about her dad, she broke up Jennifer Aniiston and Brad Pitt’s first marriage. Then made a nightmare of her marriage to Brad, continuing to this day to turn their children against him..
No sympathy.
Went down the rabbit hole on this and agree. Broken may not be the best word, unhealed maybe? And it applies to all parties involved:
Billy Bob Thornton was engaged to be married to Laura Dern when he eloped with Jolie. His elopement was his 5th, yes 5th marriage. He has been with his current partner for awhile now and got married after a decade or so passed. So now he is with 6th and hopefully ever after wife. He and Angelina are still cordial, and you see them chatting at shows and stuff. It’s known that with Dern, not so much. (Thornton “ghosted” her while she was away filming.)
Laura Dern has been married and divorced twice and has two kids. (Fun fact: Dern babysat Jolie when they were young as both their parents were in the industry.)
Jennifer Aniston has been married & divorced twice as well. No kids. Widely known. She is very close with Laura Dern. They seem to have similar personalities.
Billy Bob Thornton said he did not feel “good enough” for Jolie and that he didn’t share her philanthropic, globe trotting fervor which she developed while married to him.
Brad Pitt on the other hand was drawn to that: he likes spending time in different countries, the adoptions, the social causes stuff - all of it — it’s a quality Aniston doesn’t share. Pitt battles with alcoholism and he hasn’t been married a lot, but dated a lot. Currently with a younger Hispanic actress.
My sense is Pitt and Jolie were a good match. But all the baggage of yesteryears ultimately gathered in their marriage - midlife- and it’s a recipe for ruin without God’s help.
I don’t doubt Jolie’s wrongs and “dark side” but find her refreshingly likable and compelling both on and offscreen. Jon Voight as well. My two cents!
You forgot to mention Pitt was Jolie’s 3rd husband. Her fist husband was Johnny Lee Miller. Thornton was number 2.
