I agree. Art isn't going away. Every culture since the Neanderthals duked it out with anatomically modern humans has made art. We may not know much about music, theater, drama, etc. 50,000 years ago because there is no continuous transmission of the forms, but we do at least know about paintings on cave walls, figures scratched in rocks, and small figurines of various kinds. Storytelling has been going on since the old men told scary stories about saber tooth tigers to the little kids around the campfire, and theater probably began with ritual dancing around the same campfires.

I know, I know, some people here take a "burn it all down" attitude. But it's hard wired in the species. Highly evolved intelects may have moved on to gribe sessions on FR as the only legitimate form of expression, but young people are consuming more "content" of all descriptions than ever before, to the point at which overexposure is now being generally recognized as a serious problem.

Humans do art. It's part of what makes us human. Venting on FR is not the only legitimate form of expression. The legacy Hollywood studios are crashing. The question is what will succeed them.

Andrew Klavan said it better than I can:

Klavan: The Death of Art

No. I’m in Louisville. They were aired in our local Cineplex last week. But it was a one day showing. You just have to watch for it. Here, they show them on the Friday before the Oscars.

In past years, there were available on streaming services. I think, on Netflix ? I know the live action winner, “I’m not a robot” is on Netflix now.

VERY interesting! Thank you for that information. (Sorry for my very late reply)

We have HBO - I happened to see part of "Flow", the animation winner (?) about the cat and fellow animals on a big adventure, trying to escape a tsunami. What I saw of it was beautiful. Incredible animation. Hope to see the entire film.

Thankfully, I heard what it was about before going to see it. I didn’t have to bother wasting money.

That's great. What a load of crap movies this year - at least a fair amount of them.

I think Flow was the long version animation winner. I haven’t seen it

I watched The Wild Robot this week with my granddaughters. It was really good. Minimal wokeness. Ok. There was a little, but it was buried deep. Animation was incredible. Story was funny and heart warming. We liked it . Three times! 🙄

I'll try to check out The Wild Robot, if I can find it somewhere. Thanks for all of your advice!

Conservative friends of ours saw 'Conclave' (I think on NetFlix) and actually liked it. I asked them what they thought of the insane ending of the movie. They rolled their eyes, but claimed the rest of the movie was great and "it shows accurately how a Pope is selected".

They are not Catholic. I was raised Catholic. (I'm somewhere between Catholic and Evangelical Christian now.)

But how does *anyone* know if what was portrayed in the movie is "accurate"??

We haven't seen Conclave and have no plans to see it. I'm only asking you since you did see it. :-)
