An American family from Ohio have taken the drastic step of leaving the country and are now renouncing their US citizenship.
Jennifer Doxey along with her husband Joe and their family have moved to Canada.
But they claim they are not renouncing their citizenship just as an act of defiance. In their view, it's a necessary step toward true belonging in the country they now call home.
'I'm just so embarrassed by what my country has become,' Doxey in an interview with CTV.
Born and raised in the Buckeye State, Doxey said she never imagined a future where she would sever ties with America, but in a political climate dominated by divisive rhetoric, economic uncertainty, and now, talk of annexation, she and her family have reached their breaking point.
Doxey's journey north began in 2003 when she met her husband, a dual citizen of the US and Canada.
Five years later, they took the leap and settled in British Columbia in western Canada, determined to build a future for their children away from the instability they had witnessed in the American Midwest.
'Living in the States is nothing like what we see portrayed in television shows,' she explained.

Even the high cost of renouncing US citizenship is Schumer/Obama idea! They were upset that many US citizens were renouncing their citizenship, to avoid taxes and excruciating tax rules. So they came with all kind of penalties against it!
This is an example of a person intransigently doubling down on their stupidity rather than admit to their stupidity. Like or dislike him personally, Trump had a first term and America did extremely well because of it. To go to such an extreme now over Trump smacks of some kind of crazy hysteria.

Hopefully the Trump Administration will address the issue of dual citizenship and eliminate it. If you wish to be a citizen of the United States, then fully commit. If you are an American citizen and wish to add a Canadian citizenship, then lose your American citizenship.

So the story isn't exactly as presented in the headline. It's easy to virtue signal when your husband is already a citizen of the Country you're “escaping” to and chances are, this has been your plan all along.
