An American family from Ohio have taken the drastic step of leaving the country and are now renouncing their US citizenship.
Jennifer Doxey along with her husband Joe and their family have moved to Canada.
But they claim they are not renouncing their citizenship just as an act of defiance. In their view, it's a necessary step toward true belonging in the country they now call home.
'I'm just so embarrassed by what my country has become,' Doxey in an interview with CTV.
Born and raised in the Buckeye State, Doxey said she never imagined a future where she would sever ties with America, but in a political climate dominated by divisive rhetoric, economic uncertainty, and now, talk of annexation, she and her family have reached their breaking point.
Doxey's journey north began in 2003 when she met her husband, a dual citizen of the US and Canada.
Five years later, they took the leap and settled in British Columbia in western Canada, determined to build a future for their children away from the instability they had witnessed in the American Midwest.
'Living in the States is nothing like what we see portrayed in television shows,' she explained.

They will come to regret their petty virtue signaling some day. I am happy to see such people go.
“nothing like the television shows” no doubt.
Good for them. Helps to cleanse the USA.
Soooo, they left in 2008, the beginning of Obama’s term. Not Trump.
Good. They can go and STAY there. It sounds like their allegiance and heart strings were someplace else anyways.
It’s not like it was a big effort. She has been living in Canada for the past 17 years. Her husband and children are Canadian citizens.
The Daily mail really had to scrape the bottom to make a story about this.

They will go far . . . and I hope, soon!
'Nuf said.
......renouncing their US citizenship because of Trump.....
“Jennifer Doxey along with her husband Joe and their family have moved to Canada.”
Good luck there.
“They will come to regret their petty virtue signaling some day.”
Looks pretty healthy in the pictures...wait until she learns what ‘free’ healthcare really is.
She has been living in Canada for almost 2 decades so she knows the deal. So, this is only about her decision to have single citizenship instead of two (the US and Canada).
I’m embarrassed by this POS from Ohio.
“I’m embarrassed by this POS from Ohio.”
Don’t be. Be thankful for the cleansing of the population.
I think Canada will be an excellent fit for these two. I’m wondering if there’s a web page taking days nations to help expedite their move(?). If only all their “fellow travelers” would make this wonderful move!
Looks like she will make a good little communist.
When they or family members get sick in Canada, they will pull an Ellen Degeneres and slink back into America, leaving a trail of cowardly slime.
Five years after 2003 they settled in British Columbia, that’s 2008. Just in time for Obamas election. That’d be racist if they weren’t modern democrats.
Yes. I noticed that. More should be made of that point.
