A long time ago, I was on umemployment. I had been out of work a long time, and bills needed to be paid, so I went on it. One of the conditions was to let Maryland know if I got a new job.
So when I got a part-time job at a beer and wind store where a friend of mine worked, I let the unemployment agency know. A short time later during one of my shifts, my boss showed me a letter he received from the agency. I did not read it thoroughly, but the gist of it was that my boss had to show them I did indeed work there, or they would fine him $1500 dollars.
I was so pissed I could hardly concentrate on my work, and I stopped claiming benefits, even though I was still poor. I have never done public assistance since, even though I was jobless more recently. The way the agency treated my employer was uncalled for!

It’s complicated.
In the “Before Times”.......the “Elder Ones” used work/poor houses and county homes/farms to solve the indigent problem.
The poor were fed, housed, doctored....ie, no waifs being sold for porridge or emaciated old people dying outside the city gates...but it was not “comfortable”, so an incentive existed to GTFO as soon as possible.
But those were the “evil” days where Anglo speaking Jesus believing white nationalist supremacists ran the patriarchy.
But, what do I know and I do not feel strongly about it.
I’m being played for a sucker. I work, wife works, we are middle middle class, very conservative in our finances. These people live off of our work, our conservatism. In a million years I’d never qualify for aid...no kids out of wedlock, not a LBDGKSO, not a POC, not an illegal, not a weirdo. I’m sick of paying for this crap.
I see this all day everyday at my job. Babymommas with no job squeezing out one welfare baby after another. Four, five or more kids by different dads, none of whom live in the home or contribute to the lives of their offspring.
Mom on all types of government assistance — food stamps, SSI, TANF, government housing, free utilities. Then, the kids grow up and start the cycle all over again. Rinse, repeat for one generation after another.
Livin the dream.
Once I was behind a ghettopotamas who was buying 6 limes and 2 cases of Corona. She paid for the limes with a SNAP card first. Then pulled out a $100 bill to pay for the beer.
My wife was with me. Before she could stop me I looked right at her and said “you’re welcome!” quite loudly. She gave me “the look” and I gave it right back. As she stomped out one lady behind me started to applaud.
Her car? Yep. An Escalade.

The problem a lot of people have with making ‘bad decisions’ is they don’t have the slightest idea what and why a decision is bad.
Plus, this sort of baby-momma-sponge grifting has become multigenerational, going back to the ‘60s.
Course correction going forward is going to be epically painful.
Similar to an old 1970s interview on TV of Okies that migrated to California in the 1930s.
The Grand dad brought the family to California and found a job, was never on welfare.
Son, raised by his dad and held a job all his life.
Grandkids, all on welfare.
And that was just one family.
I remember those days. Everyone, even the poorest tried to provide for their own. Anyone who went on government “Comodities” was looked down on as a louse.
Except when the bum decided to sell his allotment of “Government cheese.” It was so good people who were disgusted at his government leeching stood in line to buy.
He then made them even madder when he went to the local liquor store and bought a CASE OF BEER with his cheese money! All the locals could afford was a six pack of 3.2 Oklahoma beer.
I have NEVER been on the dole from the government. A working man since 1962 and picking green beans for a penny a pound. Only time I ever got something from the government was a disaster loan after the 1976 Tulsa floods, and I paid every cent back with interest. Others who took the loan found ways to get around the pay back.
I remember the days when new car dealers would take food stamps as a down payment on a new car.
I NEVER bought such a car with such a down payment.
No, he just moved them all to Social Security Disability. It was a case of “it sounds really good, but we actually just shuffled them around” BS that the Dems are so famous for doing.
The socialists goaded their Liberal and Progressive friends into supporting programs to create permanent government serfs.
I’ll bet it was 50 cents in the dollar, too.
