Now I have to read the whole article.
Shoot :)
Cause why would he even kick in his own door?
Even misplacing a key..that seems a little extreme...like you said..intoxicated maybe

I always knock before kicking in a random door.

... But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn’t make any noise
But it wasn’t the bullet that laid him to rest
Was the low spark of high-heeled boys..............

Exactly. The best way to stop bullets is to knock first. Anybody who kicks in my door will meet the same fate.

Terrible for the families and the shooter, but stupidity has consequences.

Reminds me of an incident in Oklahoma years ago. a rural farmer one night was cleaning his rifle. Upon finishing cleaning it he loaded it.
At that moment two men kicked in his door. It did not go well for the kickers as funerals were held the next few days.

Years ago in Kalamazoo Michigan, I was cleaning my browning hi-power 9mm and just finished reassembling the pieces....then some numbskull barged into my 3rd floor apartment and was met with me and a gun in his face. He was drunk and just happened to walk into the wrong unit ... girlfriends was the next bldg over...I guarantee he remembers that faux pas . I didn’t pull the trigger:)

I am thinking drunk or high Drunk/High/Dead. Funny how that works huh?
To: FlingWingFlyer
Like my grandfather, I keep a loaded gun within reach.
Anyone who kicks in my door at 1 AM and gets past my dogs is going to get a bullet to the brain.

Oh! I get it now. When someone kicks in your door it has absolutely nothing to do with having any intent to cause any harm to you or to steal something. It simply means that they kicked in the wrong door.

Someone kicking in the door to your living space provides an extremely reliable presumption of ill-intent.
